Tangent Theatre Company, based in their intimate Carpenter Shop Theater in Tivoli, announces their Spring 2016 main-stage production: the award-winning Circle Mirror Transformation by Annie Baker. Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) announces the return of playwright David Ives with The School for Lies in spring of 2017. The Tony Award-nominee pairs once more with Artistic Director Michael Kahn as director, the team that previously created the highly-lauded French "trilogy" of The Liar, The Heir Apparent and The Metromaniacs at STC.

Dealing with a potentially unreliable narrator can be an emotionally frustrating experience. I feel betrayed by a production where I feel like I cannot believe what the storyteller is conveying to me, because, truly, what was the point of entrusting a deceptive narrator with your time? But in 'The Other Place' at Seattle Public Theater, our narrator Juliana Smithton's fluctuation of truth and delusion is, in fact, her subjective truth in a story of dementia and the trauma it inflicts. Never once did I feel betrayed by our protagonist: if anything, I felt I learned the most about her story from the grey area between reality and fantasy thanks to Amy Thone's brilliant performance.

Lexington, KY—Crystal Wilkinson fittingly begins her first novel with these lines since she has been a gatherer of stories and a teller of tales her entire life. Her gift was first recognized as a child in Appalachia, where it was cultivated by her grandmother. That inspiration, coupled with Wilkinson's reverence for home and heritage, took root to yield provocative works of award-winning poetry and short stories. But she gathers stories in more ways than with just her pen. She also challenges her writing students to discover and embody their own inspiration as influential writers. In addition, as the owner of Wild Fig Books & Coffee in Lexington, Kentucky, Wilkinson has found yet another way to encourage creativity within the community and share her love for the written word.

Rehearsals are underway for Alliance Theatre's production of ETHEL, written by and starring accomplished Atlanta performer Terry Burrell. ETHEL is a glimpse into the magnificent and very complicated life of the legendary stage and film star Ethel Waters.
