The enduring strength and persistence of artistry, love, and loyalty are at the center of Mercury's newest multi-theatrical production. In a dramatic combination of music, dance, voice and imagery, 'Loving Clara Schumann,' by co-creators Tara Faircloth and Antoine Plante, travels through the remarkable life of pianist and composer Clara Wieck Schumann, a pioneer in the male-dominated field of mid-nineteenth century music, and her relationships with two of the Romantic era's distinguished composers, Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms.

Opera Santa Barbara Receives $20,000 Grant

Opera Santa Barbara will receive a $20,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to help defray costs associated with its new production of Leoš Jana?ek's The Cunning Little Vixen, which the company will present at the Granada Theatre on March 3 and 5.

The 2016-17 Utah Opera season opens in October 2016 with Bizet's 'Carmen,' which was last performed on the Utah Opera stage in January 2010 and is considered one of the most popular and frequently performed operas in the world. Ars Lyrica Houston, the Grammy nominated early music ensemble, announces a 2016/17 season that mixes beloved masterworks of the Baroque with rare gems from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. Fables & Follies opens on September 9 with an encore visit to the world of King Louis XIV, with MarcAntoine Charpentier's comic chamber opera Les Plaisirs de Versailles. Handel's late masterpiece Jephtha will be offered twice, on October 15 and 16, and will feature a stellar cast of soloists plus the award-winning Moores School Concert Chorale from the University of Houston. On December 31 a festive program rings in the New Year with cantatas J.S. Bach wrote specifically for this holiday. Bachanalia also includes Ars Lyrica's annual holiday gala and silent auction following the program.
