If you've been a regular reader of this particular reviewer's musings, you know that every year there are long stretches of time where I just haven't been able to critique all the shows I've seen that deserve commentary. So I end up playing what they call in sports, 'Catch-up ball,' and post a mash up of belated reviews from past shows. It's kind of like a critic's version of the song 'Six Months Out of Every Year,' from Damn Yankees. Give or take a month or two, that's usually the time period during which I store unpublished reviews in my fevered brain and then unload them all in one seemingly endless column-like this one is going to be. 54 BELOW, Broadway's Supper Club, will welcome five original programming producers: Scott Coulter, Shoshana Feinstein, Brandon Ivie, Benjamin Rauhala, and T. Oliver Reid. In their new capacity, the five producers have been commissioned to create a variety of shows including musicals in concert, songwriter celebrations, reunion concerts, and more.
Singer and Broadway star T. Oliver Reid leads what he describes as "a club hopping journey through the swanky clubs and low down joints of 1934 Harlem," featuring the music of Duke Ellington, Harold Arlen, Andy Razaf, and more. In this new show, Reid performs each number with the unmistakable dramatic flair of a musical theater veteran, and he also provides an overview of the clubs, musicians, and social context of the music.
Urban Stages (Frances Hill, Founding Artistic Director), in association with producer/director/lyricist and Director of Musical Programming Peter Napolitano, today announced the line-up for their sixth series of musical evenings entitled WINTER RHYTHMS 2014, beginning Tuesday, December 2nd and continuing through Sunday, December 14th at Urban Stages Theatre (259 West 30th Street, just East of 8th Avenue).
