YoungArts, the core program of the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts is proud to welcome several world-renowned artists to Miami January 9-14, 2012, to serve as Master Teachers for YoungArts Week. Every year YoungArts selects approximately 150 of the nation's most talented 17-18 year old artists to travel to Miami for YoungArts Week, an all-expense paid weeklong gathering that includes master classes, workshops, readings, and exhibitions and performances that are open to the public. This year's class of students will have the exclusive experience of participating in master classes with Robert Redford, Bill T. Jones, Jacques d'Amboise, Jon Secada, Malcolm Gets and Debi Mazar. They will also participate in a special arts advocacy session with Robert L. Lynch (Americans for the Arts).

According to an Equity Chorus Call notice, SUPER FLY, the musical based on the 1972 film directed by Gordon Parks, has taken new steps toward a Broadway production. The Mottola Group and The Dodgers Developmental Lab are now seeking actors for a March 12 - April 14, 2012. Chorus auditions will be held on January 24, 2012 at Chelsea Studios. This workshop is being held in anticipation of a future Broadway run as the notice states. Bill T. Jones is on board to direct and choreograph.

The Castillo Theatre will be producing a 26-hour performance celebration of the life and theatre work of Fred Newman from 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27 through 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 28 at the Castillo Theatre, 543 West 42nd Street, between 10th and 11th Avenues. The event is free.

The Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company will present the world premiere of Jones' "Story/Time" at Peak Performances at Montclair State University, January 21-22 & 26-29. "Story/Time" marks Jones' third commission from Peak.

'Fela!,' the 2010 Best Musical Tony Award-nominated musical, opened on December 14th, at 8 p.m. at the Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre. Originality in everything was indeed what Kuti represented. He travelled the world and not only brought innovations to music with his Afrobeat, but also through exposure to American Black Powerattempted to fight European imperialism and 'change the world'. He unsuccessfully ran for President of Nigeria. In 1977 his mother Funmilayo (Melanie Marshall) was violently assassinated and his wives brutally attacked and raped by the Nigerian military. Despite rejection and humiliation, he never gave up fighting until his death in 1997.
