As Daniel K. Meyer, M.D., Chairman of the Board of Opera Philadelphia, David B. Devan, General Director & President, and Annie Burridge, Managing Director, announced today, the new festival will open the company's season each fall, drawing together some of opera's most sought-after creative and performing artists for an immersion in the new American opera and innovative stagings of the classics for which Opera Philadelphia – the only American finalist for the 2015 International Opera Award for Accessibility – is fast becoming known. Opera Philadelphia will also continue to present three additional productions each spring, making it the only U.S. opera company to open an annual season with a dynamic festival.
New York Live Arts today announced the artists selected for the 2015-2016 Fresh Tracks Performance and Residency Program. The 2015-2016 Fresh Tracks artists are Melanie Greene, Sarah Lifson, Eli Tamondong, EmmaGrace Skove-Epes and Jonathan Gonzalez, and Georgia Wall and Itamar Segev. In this ode, an exiled Rustin masterminds 'a tribute to the ancestors' 100 years after the Emancipation Proclamation. In a shared program with AXIS Dance Company at NYU's Skirball Center for the Performing Arts on November 15th, HLD presents three daring, critical works that examine the intense, personal and social struggle with physicality: Solo 1, an excerpt from Solo Countersolo (2013), the New York City premiere of Somewhere (2015), and the reincarnation of the site-specific, multi-media movement installation ON DISPLAY (2015). This marks the latest addition to HLD's The GIMP Project, a dance and advocacy project involving both disabled and non-disabled performers.
