The World Music Institute launches its 2013-14 season with the New York concert debut of CHRISTINE SALEM tonight, October 4 at 8:00pm at Peter Norton Symphony Space.

Symphony Space, in collaboration with Hermitage Artist Retreat, presents the world premiere of The Day Before, a one-time-only multimedia event, on Friday, November 8 at 7:30 pm in the Leonard Nimoy Thalia. Conceived by the two organizations, it is produced and directed by Symphony Space's Artistic Director, Laura Kaminsky. The Day Before brings together more than 60 composers, writers, filmmakers, and visual artists to contribute original work around the theme November 21, 1963: The Day Before. Sparked by the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy's assassination, this moving production reimagines the world as it was on the eve of that tragic and cataclysmic day.

The actor and director Avi Hoffman is organizing two staged readings in October. The first, a new play 'Rough Patch' by Charles Gluck, will get off to a 'smooth' start on Monday October 7 at 6pm, at the Roy Arias Studios, at the Times Square Arts Center, 300 West 43rd Street.

Following eight sold-out years of readings at The Players Club in Gramercy Park, Gingold Theatrical Group's PROJECT SHAW, under the leadership of Artistic Director, David Staller, is proud to announce that its new home for Shaw and his contemporaries will now be at Symphony Space's Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theatre (2895 Broadway at 95th St.).

Some of Broadway's best will take the stage at New York's Symphony Space on 7 October 2013 to celebrate the American music of Kurt Weill. Hosted by Ted Chapin, the evening will highlight songs from Venus as well as favorites from other Weill shows, including Street Scene, Lady in the Dark, Love Life, Lost in the Stars, Knickerbocker Holiday, The Threepenny Opera, and Happy End. The starry cast features Melissa Errico, Brent Barrett, Judy Blazer, and Ron Raines alongside Lotte Lenya Competition winners Richard Todd Adams, Douglas Carpenter, Cooper Grodin, Justin Hopkins, Zachary James, Analisa Leaming, Jacob Keith Watson, and Maren Weinberger. Weill specialist James Holmes, who conducted a fully staged production of Venus at England's Opera North in 2004, music directs, and Richard Jay-Alexander directs.

Long celebrated for his unique brand of contemporary choreography that combines powerful athleticism with profound emotional sensitivity, Takehiro (Take) Ueyama did not disappoint his opening night audience on Friday, September 27th at Peter Norton Symphony Space, Broadway at 95th Street. The program, which was repeated on September 28th, treated Take's fans to the world premiere of his 'Dark Mourning' as well as the world premiere of Kazuko Hirabayashi's 'A Baited Soul'. The closing piece was a favorite staple of Take's repertoire, his critically acclaimed 'Flight'.

Jacob Keith Watson recently made the move from Arkansas to New York.  In 2012, Jacob won the Lotte Lenya Competition for singing actors.  This past February, Jacob toured Germany performing a Golden Age Broadway concert and in October, he will be performing alongside Broadway stars at Symphony Space in Kurt Weill on Broadway.

The World Music Institute is excited to begin its Global Salon series with an intimate performance from Bengali singer Shafi Mondol on Saturday, November 2 at 8:00 pm at the Thalia Theater.

TAKE Dance, the New York City-based contemporary dance troupe led by Artistic Director/Founder Takehiro Ueyama, presents DARK MOURNING - two nights of world premiere works tonight, September 27th and Saturday, September 28th at NYC's Peter Norton Symphony Space. The program will include: the world premieres of the eponymous Dark Mourning by Take Ueyama, and a specially choreographed new work by renowned choreographer/master teacher Kazuko Hirabayashi; along with the fan favorite and critically acclaimed Flight.

Symphony Space celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with a family concert featuring Mister G. The show, celebrating the release of Mister G's new bilingual album ABC Fiesta, continues the 2013-14 Just Kidding season. The all-ages show begins at 11 am on Saturday, October 12th. Tickets range from $13 to $20.

On Friday, October 25 (7:30 pm), Krzysztof Penderecki, "Poland's greatest living composer" (The Guardian) graces the stage of Symphony Space's Leonard Nimoy Thalia for a live event hosted byHelga Davis, contributing host on Q2 Music, WQXR's online station devoted to contemporary classical music. The event is presented as part of Symphony Space's In the Salon series, in partnership with Q2 Music and the Polish Cultural Institute New York, with support from the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts. Tickets are $32; $27 for members, $20 for 30 and under (with valid ID), available through www.symphonyspace.org. The event will be streamed live on Q2 Music at www.wqxr.org/q2music.

The only actor in New York to be performing in two shows and two languages simultaneously, Avi Hoffman is currently appearing in the world premiere of Samuel Beckett's 'Waiting for Godot' in Yiddish, and his own critically acclaimed one-man musical tour de force 'Still Jewish After All These Years' in English!

Playwrights Horizons and Symphony Space will present a panel discussion previewing the theater company's new season tonight, September 23 at 7:30 PM at Symphony Space's Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theater (2537 Broadway at 95th Street). Moderated by The Washington Post's Chief Theater Critic Peter Marks, joined by Playwrights Horizons Artistic Director Tim Sanford, the 6th annual panel discussion will feature artists representing the six productions of the theater company's 2013/2014 Season.
