Nothing Like a Dame: Conversations with the Great Women of Musical Theater, a new book by Eddie Shapiro featuring interviews with 20 female musical theatre stars, launched earlier this week at the headquarters of Oxford University Press at 198 Madison Avenue. Attendees got to meet some of the dames of Dames including Laura Benanti, Judy Kaye, Debra Monk, Donna McKechnie, Donna Murphy, Lillias White and Karen Ziemba. Making his 54 Below debut, Joshua Henry (Porgy and Bess, The Scottboro Boys, American Idiot, In the Heights) will perform Broadway standards and his original songs under the music direction of Jason Michael Webb (Motown The Musical). Accompanied by Mariand Torres (The Comet of 1812) and a four piece band, Henry will present classic Broadway love songs and motown hits, as well as his own never before heard original music - all spun with a soulful twist.

I am happy to announce further casting for our upcoming production of Violet. Joshua Henryand Colin Donnell will join the previously announced Sutton Foster. Colin joined the Roundabout family starring opposite Sutton in our Tony Award-winning production of Anything Goes. And Joshua, who also played Flick in the Encores Off-Center Reading, was nominated for a Tony for his performance in The Scottsboro Boys. Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) just announced that Colin Donnell (Anything Goes) and Tony Award nominee Joshua Henry (The Scottsboro Boys) will join two-time Tony Award winner Sutton Foster in a Broadway production of VIOLET, directed by Leigh Silverman.

Today in 2005, Little Women opened at the Virginia Theatre (now the August Wilson Theatre), where it ran for 137 performances. Based on Louisa May Alcott's classic 1869 semi-autobiographical novel, it focuses on the four March sisters - brassy, tomboy-like, aspiring writer Jo, romantic Meg, pretentious Amy, and kind-hearted Beth - and their beloved Marmee, at home in Concord, Massachusetts while the family patriarch is away serving as a Union Army chaplain during the Civil War. Intercut with the vignettes in which their lives unfold are several recreations of the melodramatic short stories Jo writes in her attic studio. The Broadway cast included Sutton Foster, Maureen McGovern, Janet Carroll, Jenny Powers, Megan McGinnis, and Amy McAlexander.

Stagecrafters wows with 'SHREK THE MUSICAL'

Razor & Tie Music Publishing and Ghostlight/Sh-K-Boom Records have created a joint venture to sign and nurture the talents of a new generation of theatrical composers and writers. The venture's first signing is New York City based songwriter and artist Shaina Taub, who straddles the world of theater music and contemporary pop performance. The venture is an extension into the publishing arena of the successful longstanding distribution and marketing relationship between Razor & Tie and Ghostlight/Sh-K-Boom Records.

Continuing through January 24, The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel wil present award-winning singer, actor and dancer Sutton Foster. In a recent review for The New York Times, Stephen Holden wrote, 'The radiance of Julia Roberts and the zany spunk of Holly Golightly: that only begins to describe the seductive charms of Sutton Foster in her irresistible cabaret show.'

According to Deadline, the former LIZZIE MCGUIRE star has signed on for SEX AND THE CITY creator Darren Star's upcoming TV Land pilot YOUNGER.
