Characters from books, TV and film will share the spotlight at Children's Theatre of Charlotte in 2014-15, including three productions making their world premiere.
The two shows currently playing at 2nd Story Theater in Warren, RI were not originally scheduled as part of this year's season. They are both replacement shows, chosen by Artistic Director Ed Shea, who is quoted as saying that he wanted audiences to "have fun" and leave the theater "feeling joyful." Though I haven't seen the show playing in the DownStage space, Shea has certainly achieved that goal with the UpStage production, Becky's New Car, a play that, regardless of some faults, provides an evening of undeniable entertainment.
The Utah Shakespeare Festival recently revealed its 2015 season, eight exciting and diverse comedies, musicals, tragedies, and histories running from June to October. Artistic Directors David Ivers and Brian Vaughn announced the season, which includes four Shakespeare classics, a Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, a classic American farce, one of the world's greatest suspense thrillers, and the story of the famous composer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Tennessee Repertory Theatre has announced its schedule for the Martha R. Ingram New Works Festival. The festival will be held today, May 7 - 17 and will feature staged readings of new plays from four emerging playwrights as well as Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Doug Wright. Wright is this year's recipient of the Ingram New Works Fellowship.
MainStreet Theatre Company presents its final show of the season - the west coast premiere of Roald Dahl's The Magic Finger. British Playwright David Wood did the adaptation, which premiered at Imagination Stage in Bethesda, MD in 2013. Mr. Wood has continued to work on the play, and MainStreet is producing a brand new version. Abigail Deser is the director. The production will play two school performances today, May 2nd, and open to the public tomorrow, Saturday, May 3rd at 4pm. The strictly limited engagement will run through Sunday, May 18th only. Linchpin Theatre will produce The Nina Variations by Steven Dietz this summer. Linchpin's David Fehr and Kathryn Bartholomew are featured in Dietz's tribute to the characters 'Nina' and 'Treplev' from Anton Chekhov's The Seagull. The Nina Variations explores the synchronicity and dissonance revealed when the two lovers feel compelled to say the things left unsaid.
Amphibian Stage Productions today announced casting for its second staged reading of the 2014 season, Lebensraum by Israel Horovitz. Luke Longacre, Brian Mathis and Alexandra Lawrence will star in this drama, running Sunday, June 8 and Monday, June 9 at Amphibian's theater at 120 S. Main Street. Lisa Devine will direct the reading.

Dallas Theater Center brings the world's greatest detective to the stage in Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure, written by Steven Dietz and directed by DTC Artistic Director Kevin Moriarty. Audiences will be thrilled by Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure, which is based on the original 1899 play by William Gillette and Arthur Conan Doyle and opens in previews tonight, April 25 with a Pay-What-You-Can performance and runs through May 25 at the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre.
