The American Theatre Wing nominated two plays commissioned by the Oregon Shakespeare Festival for 2017 Tony Awards today, including Best Play. Commissioned through OSF's American Revolutions: The United States History Cycle, Sweat by Lynn Nottage and Indecent by Paula Vogel each received three nominations.

There is a palpable need for acceptance running through every moment of the charming and irreverent film adaptation of Stephen Karam's quirky SPEECH & DEBATE. The story's three central characters are each longing for acceptance from their peers, their loved ones, or themselves in the way that is all too familiar for anyone who's ever been an awkward teenager. Earlier this week, the Broadway community came out to celebrate the release Speech & Debate, based on the critically acclaimed comedy by Tony Award winner Stephen Karam (The Humans). Directed by Dan Harris, the film stars Liam James, Sarah Steele, Austin P. McKenzie, Skylar Astin, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, and cameos by Broadway's biggest stars including Lin-Manuel Miranda and an original song performed by Kristin Chenoweth. It will be opening in theaters on April 7, 2017 and is now available on iTunes. 

Significant Other, the new American play by Joshua Harmon is calling for submissions to help a lucky bachelor or bachelorette find their own Significant Other.

BroadwayWorld has just learned that Significant Other is now entering its final weeks of performances on Broadway. Tickets are available through July 2.

Producers Sonia Friedman and Scott Rudin announced today that Tony® Award nominee Tom Sturridge, Olivia Wilde in her Broadway debut, and Tony® Award winner Reed Birney will lead the cast of the Broadway Premiere of the new stage adaptation of George Orwell's dystopian novel 1984.  The trio, who will portray the novel's classic characters Winston Smith, Julia and O'Brien, respectively, will be joined by Wayne Duvall (Parsons), Carl Hendrick Louis (Martin), Nick Mills (Syme), Michael Potts (Charrington), and Cara Seymour (Mrs. Parsons).
