The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel welcomes back the acclaimed husband-and-wife team John Pizzarelli & Jessica Molaskey to the legendary Café Carlyle. Noted composer/lyricist/arranger and two-time Grammy Award nominee Larry Kerchner will be celebrated on Monday, November 5, 2012, at 7 PM at a special benefit performance of his musical works, titled Hidden Treasures: The Songs of Larry Kerchner, at The York Theatre (at St. Peter's), Lexington Avenue at 54th Street, in New York City. Produced by Sandi Durell, the musical evening will benefit The Michael Feinstein Great American Songbook Initiative and The Mabel Mercer Foundation.
The 1st Annual Bob Stewart Tuba Competition, created by The Duke Ellington Center for the Arts, will be held today, October 20, 2012 from 12 Noon to 5 PM as part of The 37th Annual 52nd Street Duke Ellington Jazz Festival. The competition has been created to provide enhanced exposure to the many dynamic tuba players who perform in improvisational music ensembles in and around the New York area. The five groups chosen for the competition perform in a wide range of genres from traditional and contemporary Jazz to Blues, hip-hop, funk rock and world music.
The popular pop-jazz duo Eric Comstock and Barbara Fasano return to the Metropolitan Room, 34 West 22nd Street, to premiere "The Night Has a Thousand Eyes" for a one-week major engagement running through Saturday October 20. The newly minted evening features a treasure chest of assorted jazz and pop gems that the husband and wife tandem pull out by the handful -- songs from the Duke Ellington, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, Joni Mitchell, Stephen Sondheim and Tom Waits. All four performances will be at 10:30 PM.
