BWW Review: Laughs Abound in Sarah Ruhl's Frothy Backstage Farce STAGE KISS at the Geffen Playhouse
by Shari Barrett - Apr 16, 2016

I have long been a fan of plays that present an insider's look at what goes on behind-the-scenes at a theatrical production. A fine example of such a backstage farce is Sarah Ruhl's STAGE KISS, skillfully directed by Bart DeLorenzo who knows exactly how to make the most outrageous stage antics and romances seem not only probable but incredibly hysterical thanks to Sarah Ruhl's fast-paced script that leads us on-stage, back-stage and out the stage door as reality collides with fiction in this raucous and revealing relationship comedy.

BWW Review: MURDER BY MISADVENTURE - Wow, What a Whodunit!
by Kristen Morale - Sep 2, 2015

Written by Edward Taylor (whom I would love to have the privilege of chatting with, the inner workings of his brain must be so profound) and directed by James Brennan (this show rocked, if you haven't already caught that), Murder by Misadventure is the title that mystery-series writing duo Kent and Riggs has bestowed upon its next potential project, but one which proves itself to not be limited to the confines of a television screen. Harold Kent is at odds with his careless and belligerent partner Riggs, who is also a fan of excessive alcohol consumption; simply put, he is a drunk, but a drunk with all the successful ideas the team has to offer the public. So, when Kent becomes determined to rid himself of his alcoholic partner whom he considers a burden (especially when an unexpected secret is at last disclosed), he decides that an "accidental" murder is the best course of action, using his partner's brilliant idea of a plotline against its creator. What ensues afterwards involves Kent, his wife and the couple's adamant yet somewhat laissez-faire follow-up of a murder they think will be a cinch, but what actually goes dreadfully wrong.

BWW Reviews: HENRY IV, PART ONE, by The Rogues of Antaeus
by Ellen Dostal - Mar 18, 2015

A striking image hovers above the action in HENRY IV, PART ONE at The Antaeus Company. It is a partial rendering of the planets orbiting the sun which serves as a constant reminder that this is the journey of a king-in-the-making. As Prince Hal, also known as Harry, slowly transitions from party boy to royal warrior, its glow becomes more and more noticeable until it finally overtakes the stage.

BWW Reviews: Brilliant Satirical YES, PRIME MINISTER Lands at Geffen
by Don Grigware - Jun 17, 2013

Not unlike David Mamet's November, a screwball look at the overwhelming incompetence of an American President, Yes, Prime Minister by Antony Jay and Jonathan Lynn in its American premiere at the Geffen, is a savvy, right-on-target satire of British politics that is over-the-top, hysterically funny with an outstanding director and cast.

BWW Reviews: RED is a Brushstroke of Genius at PlayMakers Repertory Company

There's something magical happening on stage at PlayMakers Repertory Company in Chapel Hill. Their production of John Logan's Red is one which you will not want to miss! The play, which won the Tony Award for best play in 2010, tells the story of painter Mark Rothko and his assistant, Ken. Over the course of two years, the two work together to create art, and to discuss the very nature of life, art, and creation.
