?Three scripts have been selected from more than 175 submissions to be featured in Portland Center Stage's 18th annual festival for new work development, JAW: A Playwrights Festival. Playwright Kevin Artigue will develop The Forcings, a magic realism-infused play that stares unflinchingly at a family in crisis and a civilization barreling toward extinction; Mia Chung will develop Catch as Catch Can, a story exploring the shifting roles we play in the presence of family; and Nathan Dame will develop The Saints, a funny and poignant journey of a young woman making her way back to hope. To add to the excitement of this year's JAW festivities, PCS will also workshop two of the world premiere productions that are slated for its 2016-2017 season: Wild and Reckless, a new musical event from Blitzen Trapper; and Lauren Weedman Doesn't Live Here Anymore by Lauren Weedman (The People's Republic of Portland, 2013 and 2015).
STELLA ADLER LAB THEATRE COMPANY has announced its 2016 Summer Production. The Summer Series Premiere of Clifford Odets' Golden Boy to be directed by the multi-talented Actor/Director Rick Peters. Performance dates are June 17 through July 10, 2016. The show will be in the Gilbert Theatre.

More than 40 actors have been set to participate in The Blank Theatre's 24th Annual Young Playwrights Festival, including Angelique Cabral (Life In Pieces), Christoph Sanders (Ghost Whisperer, Last Man Standing), JR Bourne (Teen Wolf), Sharon Lawrence (NYPD Blue), Scott Lowell (Queer As Folk), Angel Parker (Lab Rats, American Crime Story), Lenny Jacobson (Nurse Jackie, Big Time in Hollywood, FL), and Jessy Schram (Nashville, Veronica Mars, Falling Skies). Twelve winning plays by young playwrights aged 16-19 from seven different states will be presented during this year's festival at the Stella Adler Theatre in Hollywood, running from June 2-26.
The Stella Adler Studio of Acting announced today that the 11th Annual Stella by Starlight Benefit Gala will be held on June 13 at The Prince George Ballroom in New York City. The Drama Book Shop will welcome back playwright and actress Halley Feiffer for an intimate discussion about her craft and her new play, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Gynecologic Oncology Unit At Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center Of New York City. As part of the National Endowment for the Arts funding for local arts projects and partnerships, the Stella Adler Studio of Acting has been awarded an Art Works award of $18,000 to support their work with inmates at Rikers Island Correctional Facility. The Art Works category supports the creation of work and presentation of both new and existing work, lifelong learning in the arts, and public engagement with the arts through 13 arts disciplines or fields.
American Theater Company (ATC) proudly announces Season 32, led by its newly appointed Artistic Director Will Davis and continuing the theater's dedication to developing new works. The 2016-17 season kicks off this September with the world premiere of Dan Aibel's T., an exploration of the competitive ice skating saga between Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding, directed byMargot Bordelon, Sept. 23-Oct. 30, 2016. In the New Year, ATC presents Jaclyn Backhaus' Men On Boats, making its regional premiere at ATC Jan. 6-Feb. 12, 2017, under Will Davis' direction after he remounts his acclaimed New York production Off Broadway at Playwrights Horizons this summer. Next spring brings another world premiere at ATC, Basil Kreimendahl's We're Gonna Be Okay, March 17-April 23, 2017. The production is directed by Bonnie Metzgar and was originally developed at ATC in collaboration with The Araca Group during AracaWorks: Chicago 2015. The 1 in 3 Campaign announced today the national tour of a groundbreaking new documentary play on abortion in the face of political attacks on access to safe, affordable abortion care. The play moves past the noise of the current political climate and features first-hand accounts from the people who receive and provide abortion care, even as access to abortion care comes under increasing threat.
The tour of 'Remarkably Normal' by Jessi Blue Gormezano, Abortion Stories from the 1 in 3 Campaign' directed by Marie Byrd Sproul includes performances in eight cities, including some of the states with the most restrictive laws or active fights to place greater restrictions on access to abortion care, including Texas, where a law that's forced many of the clinics to close is under consideration by the U.S. Supreme Court. The play is a clever, thoughtful and creative way to bring the reality of people's abortion experiences into the heightened and tense conversation around abortion.
