The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) announces 15 awards granted from their National Fund for New Musicals, a major funding program to support NAMT member not-for-profit theatres in their collaborations with writers to create, develop and produce new musicals. Now in its fourth year, the Fund will provide grants totaling $48,000 to 14 organizations across the country.

Comedian, talk show host, producer and star Rosie O'Donnell has made no secret of her desire to play 'Miss Hannigan' in the upcoming Broadway revival of ANNIE. Now, an insider has told the Huffington Post that she will indeed be returning to Broadway in the revival. The source told HP: 'Ro loves Broadway and is super excited about playing the part. The paperwork hasn't been signed yet but the negotiations are well under way. This is a great role that she will be able to sink her teeth into and will get her back to acting and performing live, which has always been her first love."

Together, these contributions create a solid, vital foundation on which NAMT will build the future of this young program.

Musical theatre writers may apply as a team with one musical. The Rhinebeck Writers Retreat provides one-week residencies for writers to work on their musical in a home just outside of Rhinebeck, New York. There will be seven retreats offered in July and August. Applications are due February 15th and there is a submission fee of $25. According the the NY Times, Kelli O'Hara is set to lead a New York workshop for a musical version of THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY later this month. Featuring a a score by Jason Robert Brown, the workhop will feature direction by Tony winner Bartlett Sher.
The National Endowment for the Arts has awarded a $60,000 Art Works grant to the National Alliance for Musical Theatre to support NAMT's Fall Conference and 24th Annual Festival of New Musicals taking place in the fall of 2012.
Following a successful 23rd Annual Festival of New Musicals held in NYC Oct. 27-28. The National Alliance for Musical Theatre held a party at Southern Hospitality. This year's Festival attaracted over 650 people representing 300 organizations from around the country including Europe attending the eight new musicals that were presented.
