YouTube today announced nominations for the first-ever YouTube Music Awards, a global event culminating in a live show from New York City on Sunday, November 3. Six categories, including Video, Artist, and YouTube Phenomenon of the Year, are now open for voting to fans around the world.

Spike Jonze's HER, starring Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, Rooney Mara, Olivia Wilde and Scarlett Johansson will make its World Premiere as the Closing Night Gala presentation for the upcoming 51st New York Film FestivalThe AP reports that the usually press-shy Phoenix was talkative as a post-screening panel, and explained his motivation for the character. They join Caltech physicist Sean Carroll and MUSE/IQUE Artistic Director Rachael Worby, who conducts the MUSE/IQUE Orchestra for a pure out-of the-box adventure that also celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Maurice Sendak's 'Where the Wild Things Are' with a world premiere of a dance set to the score of Spike Jonze' critically acclaimed film adaptation of the beloved children's book. Gates open at 5:30 pm for dinner (ordered in advance) or bring-your-own picnics, with table seating and plentiful free parking.

The JAPAN CUTS: The New York Festival of Contemporary Japanese Cinema returns for its seventh season, with 10 days of screenings and over 20 titles. JAPAN CUTS 2013 presents the roughest, sharpest, and smoothest of today's cutting-edge Japanese film scene, encompassing bigger-than-life blockbusters, high-concept art house titles, moving and provoking documentaries, delirious rom-coms, refined melodramas and a handful of UFOs-unidentified film objects. Featuring appearances by several special guest filmmakers, JAPAN CUTS 2013 kicks off July 11 with a blowout opening night party and runs through July 21, screening 25 titles, all of which are a mix of New York, U.S. and International premieres. The festival again dovetails with the New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF), which co-presents 12 films of the JAPAN CUTS lineup today, July 11-14.
MTV Enlists Brooklyn-Based Artist Kaws to Redesign 'Moonman' for 2013 VMAs

MTV, a unit of Viacom Inc. (NASDAQ: VIAB, VIA), has teamed up with the world-renowned, Brooklyn-based artist KAWS to reimagine the MTV Moonman for the 2013 MTV “Video Music Awards” -- the first major awards show to ever take place in Brooklyn, airing LIVE from Barclays Center on August 25, 2013. An artist whose work has been presented at prestigious museums and galleries from Los Angeles to Paris, Tokyo and Hong Kong, KAWS' art will be present throughout the award show, influencing the design for both the set and the logo. Additionally, artists who win a 2013 “Video Music Award” will take home a special-edition KAWS Moonman, which was created exclusively for this year's show.
