Evan Rachel Wood 'Spins' on SPIDER-MAN Role to MTV & GQ

Industry circles have buzzed that actress Evan Rachel Wood has been set for the role of 'Mary Jane' in the upcoming 'SPIDER-MAN:Turn Off The Dark' musical, but the young actress and star of the new Woody Allen release, 'Whatever Works' and the recent Oscar nominated The Wrestler revealed to MTV News that all is not set in 'comic book' stone.

SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark, featuring direction by Julie Taymor (Across The Universe, Frida, The Lion King on Broadway), music and lyrics by 22-time Grammy® Award-winners Bono and The Edge (from U2), and written by Taymor and Glen Berger (Underneath The Lintel), held an open casting call Monday, April 13 (10 AM - 5 PM) at The Knitting Factory (74 Leonard Street) in New York City as part of an ongoing nationwide casting tour.

Directed by Tony Award-winner Julie Taymor with 22-time Grammy Award-winning Bono and The Edge creating new music and lyrics, SPIDER-MAN will be written by Julie Taymor and Glen Berger. Well 'True Believers', since that official statement, the 'webslinging' work has heated up, and the creative process is in full 'swing' (forgive us the pun, but c'mon...).

This multi-disciplinary performance examines the gender hierarchy of the story of creation and with wit and beauty begs the question: 'Was Eve framed?'. A live trio performance of Daniel Rosenboom's original score emphasizing rhythmic, electronic and Middle Eastern leitmotifs will accompany the dancers as they animate the historic sacred space of Temple Akiba (5249 S. Sepulveda Blvd., Culver City, CA 90230). Please join us on Sunday, March 22 at 4 pm! Tickets are $15 for DRC members and includes an appletini.

Emmy winner Rosie O'Donnell has signed on to star in and executive produce the poignant new Lifetime Original Movie, 'America,' premiering in February 2009. Based on E.R. Frank's book of the same name, the film follows the story of a boy named America, an emotionally vacant sixteen-year-old, who spent his entire life shuffled through the foster care system. O'Donnell stars as a therapist who gives America the support he needs to deal with his troubled past and helps him find the courage to live.

BC/EFA Auctioning Prime Seats to Closing Performance and Party for 'Rent'

On September 7, 2008 the curtain will fall on Broadway for the final performance of Rent. The producers of this landmark Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize musical have generously donated a pair of 'prime' tickets to the final performance and closing night gala to be auctioned with the proceeds to benefit Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS.
