The Chamber Music Society of Detroit will present the incomparable Juilliard String Quartet in two concerts the weekend of October 8 and 9, 2016, the quartet's first Detroit area appearances with its new cellist, Astrid Schween.  On Today, October 8 at 8:00 PM, the quartet performs at Seligman Performing Arts Center with a program of music by Haydn, Bartok and Beethoven.

Vienna Philharmonic to Release SUMMER NIGHT Concert on CD, DVD & More, Today

NEW YORK, NEW YORK (July 25, 2016)—Conducted by Semyon Bychkov in May 2016, the 13th annual Vienna Philharmonic Summer Night Concert Schönbrunn will be released on CD, DVD, Blu-Ray, and digital platforms by Sony Classical on August 12 and broadcast on PBS's Great Performances on Today, September 30 at 9 p.m. (check local listings.). The Summer Night Concerts are presented free each year in the gardens of Vienna's Imperial Schönbrunn Palace, and Mr. Bychkov—conducting the event for the first time—led the Vienna Philharmonic in front of its largest Summer Night Concert audience ever (102,000 spectators). The performance reached an additional 585,000 people through TV and radio, having been broadcast by 83 stations on five continents.

Leonidas Kavakos To Make Conducting Debut, 10/20

In his first appearances as The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence, violinist and conductor Leonidas Kavakos will make his Philharmonic conducting debut leading and performing J.S. Bach's Violin Concerto in D minor (reconstructed), BWV 1052, and conducting Busoni's Berceuse elegiaque and Schumann's Symphony No. 2. The program takes place Thursday, October 20, 2016, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, October 21 at 11:00 a.m.; Saturday, October 22 at 8:00 p.m.; and Tuesday, October 25 at 7:30 p.m.
