MOTOWN THE MUSICAL hosted First Lady Michelle Obama and her daughters Sasha and Malia at the matinee performance on Sunday, August 25, 2013. The Obama family was joined by poet Elizabeth Alexander (who composed and delivered "Praise Song for the Day" for the first inauguration of President Obama), and the party was greeted by a standing ovation upon recognition by the audience inside the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.

The Australian Bee Gees Show - A Tribute to the Bee Gees and the Southern Nevada Chapter of the American Red Cross have partnered to host a series of special performances at Excalibur Hotel & Casino. This Labor Day weekend, a portion of proceeds from all ticket sales will benefit the American Red Cross. BroadwayWorld has confirmed that Felicia Boswell has stepped into the role of 'Diana Ross' in Broadway's MOTOWN, while Tony nominee Valisia LeKae is on vacation. Boswell first began performances earlier this week on August 13, and will remain through September 23 when LeKae returns to the Lunt-Fontanne.

The Marsh presents new opening dates for the World Premiere of THE SCION, a tale of privilege, murder, and sausage performed by award-winning performer Brian Copeland (Not a Genuine Black Man, The Waiting Period). Written by Brian Copeland, developed by Brian Copeland and David Ford, and directed by David Ford, THE SCION will be performed in workshop October 4 – 26, 2013 and will receive its World Premiere January 9 – March 1, 2014 (press opening February 1) at The Marsh San Francisco, 1062 Valencia Street.

Elvis Costello embarks on SOLO East Coast U.S. Tour with Philadelphia Stop at Merriam Theater on Sunday, November 10 at 8 p.m. Costello's performance includes new work from Wise Up Ghost (to be released September 17, Blue Note Records), the collaborative album of Costello and The Roots, produced by longtime Roots associate Steven Mandel along with Costello and ?uestlove. Tickets go on sale to the public Friday, August 9th at 10 a.m.

American Composers Orchestra (ACO) continues its mission to be a catalyst for new American orchestral music while providing invaluable opportunities for composers through four EarShot partnerships during the 2013-2014 season. Calls for submissions for EarShot Readings with three of the orchestras are now open - Berkeley Symphony (Readings on February 2-3 & May 4-5, 2014, submission deadline August 30), Detroit Symphony (Readings on March 9-10, 2014, submission deadline October 11), and the New York Philharmonic (Readings on June 3, concerts on June 5-7, 2014, submission deadline December 2) as part of the NY PHIL BIENNIAL. Also as part of the NY PHIL BIENNIAL, ACO continues its ownUnderwood New Music Readings for the 23rd year in New York at the DiMenna Center (June 6-7, 2014, submission deadline December 2). Composers have already been selected for the La Jolla Symphony Readings, which take place on September 19 and 20, 2013.
