New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) has announced casting for NYTW Usual Suspect Mfoniso Udofia's SOJOURNERS and HER PORTMANTEAU, presented in repertory and directed by NYTW Usual Suspect and former NYTW 2050 Fellow Ed Sylvanus Iskandar.

This Spring, The Negro Ensemble Company, Inc. continues the celebration of its 50th Anniversary season, in which it is remounting classic plays of the company's past.

As the centerpiece of the Company's 25th anniversary season, Target Margin Theater and Abrons Arts Center will present a rare revival of Eugene O'Neill's great trilogy, Mourning Becomes Electra, directed by Herskovits, and running April 26-May 20. Part Greek tragedy, part family play, part history play, Mourning Becomes Electra (O'Neill's 1931 adaptation of Aeschylus 'The Oresteia') mashes myth, Freudian psychology and melodrama into an epic six hour production.

The Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) presents Macbeth, directed by Tony Award-nominee Liesl Tommy and featuring Jesse J. Perez as Macbeth and Nikkole Salter as Lady Macbeth. The show will run April 25-May 28 at Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW).

Bad singers make interesting stories. After Meryl Streep got an Oscar nomination for her role as the classical world's Florence Foster Jenkins, last year, here comes Broadway's Debra Monk, warbling the pop repertoire of a mid-1960s musical misfit in a new musical full of Great White Way pedigree.

Maestro Luke Frazier and The American Pops Orchestra - Washington, DC's innovative hometown orchestra - will continue their all-star 2016-2017 season with a new take on the classic tale  Cinderella: A Magical, Musical Tale today, March 11 at 2:00 PM at Live! at 10th and G (First Congregational UCC, 945 G Street NW, WDC 20001).

The Huntington Theatre Company presents the explosive Pulitzer Prize winner Topdog/Underdog by Suzan-Lori Parks and directed by Tony, Grammy, and Drama Desk Award winner Billy Porter (The Colored Museum at the Huntington and Lola in Kinky Boots on Broadway). Performances run March 10 - April 9, 2017 at the Avenue of the Arts / BU Theatre.

The new racially-charged drama Detroit Blues announces their 29 hour reading, which will be directed by Obie award-winning Leah C. Gardiner (Public Theater, Soho Rep), written by Patrice Cassedy, with casting by Tara Rubin Casting. The readings will be held at Theatre 54 at Shetler Studios (244 West 54th Street - 12 Floor) today, March 10th at 12pm and 3:00pm.

The Drama League (Executive Artistic Director Gabriel Stelian-Shanks) will honor two outstanding stage luminaries at this year's 83RD Annual Drama League Awards, set for Friday afternoon, May 19, 2017 at the Marriott Marquis Times Square (1535 Broadway). 

The Ogunquit Playhouse is proud to announce that it has received three Independent Reviewers of New England Award (IRNE) nominations in the large theatre category for its 2016 production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame including Best Set Design, Best Lighting Design, and Best Actor in a Musical. The IRNE Awards honor the best of the previous year's actors, directors, choreographers, designers and companies across the full spectrum of large, mid-size and fringe theater companies in Boston and New England.

Charles Busch and Penny Fuller, who appeared together as bosom buddies Mame and Vera in Auntie Mame at the Bay Street Theatre, will lend their voices to Monahan & Oyen's DIVA: Live From Hell. Busch (The Divine Sister, The Tale of the Allergist's Wife) will voice the manager of the dingy cabaret venue in Hell, where Desmond Channing (played by Monahan) is doomed to perform his torturous act for eternity. Fuller (Sunday in the Park with George, The Elephant Man), who was nominated for a Tony Award for her portrayal of Eve Harrington in the musical Applause, will voice the grandmother of Desmond Channing (loosely inspired by the character of Eve Harrington's nemesis, Margo Channing).

The revival of The Glass Menagerie opens tonight, March 9, at the Belasco Theatre, with a cast of some Broadway vets as well as a fresh face. Get to know the company before they take their opening night bows.

Abingdon Theatre Company, under the artistic direction of Tony Speciale, presents the world premiere of CHESS MATCH NO. 5, conceived and directed by Anne Bogart, with text arranged by Jocelyn Clarke from the words of John Cage.

Vineyard Theatre Artistic Directors Douglas Aibel and Sarah Stern announce that Tony Award nominee David Garrison (Vineyard's MIDDLETOWN and EIGHT DAYS BACKWARDS) will join the cast of KID VICTORY starting Tuesday, March 14 for the the final week of its run. Garrison replaces Daniel Jenkins who returns to OSLO for the Broadway production.

The Public Theater will begin previews for the world premiere musical THE OUTER SPACE on Thursday, February 23 in Joe's Pub at The Public. With book and lyrics by Ethan Lipton and directed by Leigh Silverman, the show has been extended one week through Sunday, April 9, with an official press opening today, March 8. THE OUTER SPACE features music composed and performed by Ethan Lipton, Vito Dieterle, Eben Levy, and Ian Riggs.

Today's subject Corey Mach is currently living his theatre life as part of a play that deals with a true “legend” of pop music. I'm referring to that off-pitch sensation Mrs. Miller. Corey Mach portrays her accompanist Simon Bock in Mrs.Miller Does her Thing, which is now playing at Signature Theatre in Arlington, Virginia through March 26th.

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) announced today that the NYTW 2017 Spring Gala will celebrate partnerships with honorees Dartmouth College, whose residency partnership with NYTW spans a quarter of a century; along with longtime NYTW Usual Suspect and Tony Award-nominated Director Michael Greif (Dear Evan Hansen, War Paint), who was an inaugural member of NYTW's 'New Directors Project' in 1984 and rose to prominence with his direction of Machinal at the Public and Rent at NYTW. The Gala will be held on Monday, May 15 at the Edison Ballroom (240 W 47th St., New York, NY 10036).

Signature Theatre presents the world premiere production Mrs. Miller Does Her Thing, written and directed by Pulitzer Prize winner James Lapine (Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods). This new play based on the real-life story of Elva Miller, a middle-aged housewife who gained notoriety as an unlikely pop phenomenon in the 1960s for her warbling renditions of chart topping hits 'Downtown,' 'Monday, Monday,' 'A Hard Day's Night,' and more runs now through March 26 in Signature Theatre's MAX Theatre.
