The Negro Ensemble Company Opens THE PICTURE BOX at Theatre Row, 1/11

'The PICTURE BOX" by Cate Ryan will be presented by The Negro Ensemble Company Off Broadway* at Theatre Row - Beckett Theatre, 410 West 42nd Street. Previews begin Wednesday, January 11th, 2012 and the opening is Sunday, January 15th for the limited engagement from the theatre company. The new play is directed by Charles Weldon.

RAIN Returns To Philadelphia 1/31

RAIN - A Tribute To The Beatles, will return to Philadelphia at the Academy of Music for eight shows only Jan. 31 to Feb. 5 as part of the Broadway Season.

HAIR to Visit Academy of Music, 1/3-8

The 2009 Tony Award Winning Musical Revival HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical, will play Philadelphia's Academy of Music for a limited engagement Jan. 3 - 8 as part of the Broadway Season, which is presented by The Kimmel Center and The Shubert Organization. The press opening is Tues. Jan. 3 at 7:30 pm.

Howard McGillin Replaces John Dossett in Broadway-Bound REBECCA

Two-time Tony Award nominee Howard McGillin has joined the cast of the upcoming new musical REBECCA, based on the classic novel by Daphne du Maurier novel, opening on Broadway Sunday, April 22 at The Broadhurst Theatre (235 West 44th Street). Previews will begin Tuesday, March 27. McGillin will play the role of Frank Crawley, replacing previously announced John Dossett (who will appear in another show this season). McGillin joins Sierra Boggess ("I"), Tam Mutu (Maxim deWinter), Karen Mason (Mrs. Danvers), James Barbour (Jack Favell), Donna English (Beatrice de Winter), Nick Wyman (Giles) and Henry Stram (Ben).

STAGE TUBE: On This Day 12/20- DREAMGIRLS

30 years ago today, Dreamgirls premiered on Broadway at the Imperial Theatre. The production was directed by Michael Bennett, produced by Bennett, Bob Avian, Geffen Records, and The Shubert Organization, and choreographed by Bennett and Michael Peters. It starred Sheryl Lee Ralph as Deena Jones, Jennifer Holliday as Effie White, Loretta Devine as Lorrell Robinson, Ben Harney as Curtis Taylor, Jr., Cleavant Derricks as James 'Thunder' Early, and Obba Babatundé as C. C. White. Dreamgirls proved to be a star-making vehicle for several of its performers, particularly Holliday, whose performance as Effie received significant praise.

Joining Sierra Boggess (previously announced for the leading role of "I") are Tam Mutu (Love Never Dies in the West End) as Maxim de Winter, Karen Mason (Sunset Boulevard, Mamma Mia!) as Mrs. Danvers, James Barbour (Beauty and the Beast, A Tale of Two Cities) as Jack Favell, John Dossett (Gypsy) as Frank Crawley, Donna English (Lend Me A Tenor) as Beatrice de Winter and Nick Wyman (Les Miserables) as Giles. Previews will begin Tuesday, March 27.
