WGN America will give viewers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the new season of the breakout series 'Salem' this Sunday, March 15th at 9:30 pm ET/6:30 pm PT via a 30-minute featurette entitled 'Salem: Witch War.' The special, which will air on WGN america and across Tribune stations, features an in-depth look at 'Salem' ahead of the show's highly anticipated second season return on Sunday, April 5th at 10pm ET/9pm CT. WGN America is set to cast a spell on the 22 nd annual South By Southwest Film Conference and Festival (SXSW), by presenting SXSW's Film Opening Party celebrating the innovative festival and season two of the national cable network's provocative, supernatural thriller, 'Salem.' Serving as the official opening festivity of SXSW Film, the event to be held at the historically haunted Speakeasy on the Avenue begins at 10 p.m., where festivalgoers will experience an unforgettable 'witches playground,' with soothsayers, levitating enchantresses, apothecaries, and more. 'Salem' stars Janet Montgomery ('Made in Jersey,' 'Human Target'), Shane West ('Nikita,' 'ER') and Lucy Lawless ('Xena: Warrior Princess,'Spartacus') will be on hand at the 'Salem' at SXSW celebration.

WGN Renews SALEM for Second Season

WGN America has picked up a second season of its first original, scripted drama 'Salem,' it was announced today by Matt Cherniss, President and General Manager, WGN America and Tribune Studios. 'Salem,' which is being renewed three episodes into its first season, is produced by Fox 21 and co-created and written by Brannon Braga and Adam Simon, who also serve as executive producers with Jeff Kwatinetz and Josh Barry of Prospect Park and David Von Ancken. The 13-episode second season will begin production later this year for a 2015 debut.
Debut of WGN America's SALEM Secures 2.3 Million Total Viewers

The series debut of 'Salem,' WGN America's first original scripted series burst out of the gate, bewitching audiences on television's highly competitive Sunday night, skyrocketing to an impressive 2.3 million Total Viewers and 886,000 Adults 18-49, during four combined airings on the network. The premiere telecast at 10 p.m. ET, delivered a superb 1.5 million Total Viewers and 647,000 Adults 18-49, a +635% increase over the network's Adults 18-49 season-to-date average on Sundays at 10 p.m. Additionally, it ranked as WGN America's best telecast performance in more than seven years, since 2007.
