Serj Tankian To Release New Studio Album, Harakiri, 7/10

Harakiri, the new studio album from singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, poet and political activist Serj Tankian is set to be released July 10th on Reprise Records/Serjical Strike. Look for a teaser video with a snippet of the first single, 'Figure It Out,' on Serj's website next week.

System Of A Down frontman Serj Tankian is in his Serjical Strike Studios in LA putting the finishing touches on his third solo studio album, Harakiri, the follow-up to 2010's Imperfect Harmonies, which will be released this summer on Serjical Strike/Reprise Records.

Diane Paulus-Helmed PIPPIN Plays A.R.T. in December; Is Broadway Next?

American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) has announced that it will present the musical Pippin as part of its 2012 - 13 Season. The production will be directed by Diane Paulus with choreography by Gypsy Snider of the Montreal-based circus company Les 7 doigts de la main, also known as 7 Fingers. Performances will begin in December 2012 at the Loeb Drama Center, Cambridge.

Steven Sater & Duncan Sheik's THE NIGHTINGALE to Play La Jolla Playhouse in July

La Jolla Playhouse just announced that The Nightingale, by the creative team behind the Tony Award-winning musical Spring Awakening: Steven Sater (book and lyrics) and Duncan Sheik (music), directed by Tony Award nominee Moises Kaufman (33 Variations), will be part of the Playhouse's 2012/2013 season. Running in the Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre July 10 - August 5, 2012, The Nightingale will be presented as part of the Playhouse's acclaimed Page To Stage Play Development Program.

Shana Halligan Releases Debut Solo EP PAPER BUTTERFLY, 11/29

Shana Halligan, former lead singer of sultry trip-hop duo Bitter:Sweet, is gearing up for the launch of her debut solo EP, Paper Butterfly, the first release from imprint label, Unknown Breakthrough, which counts Robb McDaniels (Co-founder, INgrooves) and Rob Garza (Thievery Corporation, ESL) among its owners. The five-song EP will be released digitally by INgrooves on November 29, 2011 followed by a full-length release in 2012. In support of the EP release, Shana will be performing one night only at the Bootleg Bar (2220 Beverly Blvd) on Wednesday, December 7 at 9:30 PM.

The Old Globe today announced the cast and creative team for the World Premiere of Some Lovers, a new musical with book and lyrics by Tony and Grammy Award winner Steven Sater and music by Academy and Grammy Award-winning legend Burt Bacharach. Directed by Will Frears with music supervision by Lon Hoyt and choreography by Denis Jones, Some Lovers will run Nov. 26 - Dec. 31 in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run Nov. 26 - Dec. 6. Executive Producer Lou Spisto today announced that The Old Globe will produce the World Premieres of four new plays and musicals in its 2011-12 Winter Season. The season will feature the World Premiere musicals Some Lovers by music legend Burt Bacharach and Tony Award winner Steven Sater and Nobody Loves You by Gaby Alter and Itamar Moses, as well as the West Coast Premiere of John Kander and Fred Ebb's The Scottsboro Boys, recently nominated for 12 Tony Awards including Best Musical, directed and choreographed by five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman. The two plays receiving World Premiere productions are Somewhere by Globe Playwright-in-Residence Matthew Lopez and The Recommendation by Jonathan Caren. The new season also includes revivals of Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show and the Eugene O'Neill classic Anna Christie directed by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner David Auburn. Special events include the World Premiere of Odyssey by Todd Almond, a music theater event conceived and directed by Lear deBessonet celebrating the Globe's 75th Anniversary, The Old Globe/University of San Diego Graduate Theatre Program production of Twelfth Night and Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, which returns for its 14th consecutive year.
