NAMT to Feature Songwriters Showcase, 10/21

The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) has announced additional casting and Songwriters Showcase line-up for its 22nd Annual Festival of New Musicals taking place on Thursday, October 21 and Friday, October 22, 2010 at New World Stages in New York City. The Industry-only two-day event features 8 new musicals in 45-minute staged readings.

PTC@PLAY Play Festival Closes at Philadelphia Theatre Company, 10/12

Philadelphia Theatre Company kicks off its 35th Anniversary Season with PTC@PLAY, a new play festival running October 5-21 at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre (Broad and Lombard Streets). The Festival, with staged readings of works by established playwrights as well as new voices, features Casa Cushman, by Leigh Fondakowski in conjunction with the Tectonic Theater Project, Strongman's Ghost by Jeffrey Hatcher, What We're Up Against by Theresa Rebeck, How To Write A New Book For The Bible by Bill Cain and Milk Like Sugar by Kirsten Greenidge. All readings are free with curtain time at 7:00 PM.

Juilliard's Drama Division announced the complete schedule for its 2010-2011 season of fully-staged productions featuring students in their fourth and final year of acting training at Juilliard. This season's plays include Lorraine Hansberry's A RAISIN IN THE SUN, directed by Jade King Carroll, October 20-24; David Auburn's PROOF, directed by Harris Yulin, November 11-15; and Chekhov's THE SEAGULL, directed by Richard Feldman, December 9-13.

Phoenix Theater To Present Post Play Discussion Of IN THE NEXT ROOM 10/10

The Phoenix Theatre of Indianapolis will be presenting a post-play discussion following the October 10th performance of In the Next Room - or the vibrator play. Written by MacArthur 'genius grant' recipient Sarah Ruhl, this Pulitzer Prize-finalist and Tony Award-nominated play opened Thursday, September 30 on the Phoenix Mainstage and plays through Sunday, October 24, 2010.

Surfside Players, Cocoa Beach, is proud to announce Baby with the Bathwater, by Christopher Durang, one of Broadway's most provocative writers of black comedy. This time the author's target is parenthood and child-raising in the modern age. As the play begins Helen and John gaze proudly at their new offspring, a bit disappointed that it doesn't speak English and too polite to check its sex. So they decide that the child is a girl and name it Daisy-which leads to all manner of future emotional and personality problems when it turns out that Daisy is actually a boy. Through the rest of the play, the saga of Daisy's struggle to establish his identity continues, despite his parents' growing obliviousness.

In her surprising true-life story, we follow her from the vaudeville stage at the age of 15 through her ascension to Hollywood goddess. BACKWARDS IN HIGH HEELS tells the story of this legendary dancer, singer and actress through the music of some of the 20th century's greatest composers and with plenty of dance numbers worthy of the Hollywood icon. BACKWARDS IN HIGH HEELS plays in Tucson at the Temple of Music and Art from September 10 through October 2.
