September 2013 marks the beginning of Beck Center for the Arts' landmark 80th season, and Beck Center certainly has cause to celebrate. From humble beginnings as Lakewood Little Theater in 1933, the organization has grown to be one of the largest arts organizations in Northeast Ohio, serving nearly 60,000 constituents annually with dynamic theater, arts education, exhibits and outreach programming. Tonight, October 19, 2013, Beck Center will host a gala,Spotlight, to honor the past and look forward to the next 80+ years of creating art experiences in Northeast Ohio. The festivities will include a special presentation to honor Terry Stewart, retired President & CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame & Museum.

You know you aren't in for the typical Broadway musical, when, at the start of SPAMALOT, now on stage at Beck Center, a historian gives a brief overview of medieval England and a Finnish village appears with dancers slapping each other with dead fish as they perform the 'Fisch Schlapping Song.' Cleveland Play House, with license from the American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER) and Broadway Impact, will produce a one-night-only staged reading of '8,' a play chronicling the historic trial in the federal constitutional challenge to California's Proposition 8, written by Academy Award-winning screenwriter and AFER Founding Board Member Dustin Lance Black.

Several weeks ago a study listed George W. Bush among the worst presidents of the United States. Also on that list was Andrew Jackson. However, in contrast to Bush, Jackson was also on the roll of the best presidents.
