Box Office for Broadway's SHUFFLE ALONG Opens Today

The Music Box Theatre box office (239 West 45th Street) opens today, February 1st, at 10am for tickets to Shuffle Along Or The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed.

Triple Threat Dance Showcase Set for SOPAC, 2/19

SOPAC will present an exciting and unique dance showcase featuring three different genres of dance; Modern, Tap, and one that fuses West African Dance with the more contemporary Modern style. The Triple Threat Dance Showcase features performances inspired by the African diaspora, a modern dance company that is renowned for creating emotionally-driven work with a bold athletic style, and the joy and infectious spirit of the uniquely American art form called tap. Umoja Dance Company, Freespace Dance, NJ TAP Dance Ensemble, and will perform their idiomatic talents in a rare night that features three strikingly different types of dance. Tickets to the performance are $15-$20 and can be purchased online at SOPACnow.org, or by calling the box office at (973) 313-2787.

Miller and Aubrey Lyles to create this ground-breaking work. SHUFFLE ALONG will star six-time Tony Award-winner Audra McDonald, Tony Award-winners Brian Stokes Mitchell and Billy Porter, and Tony Award-nominees Brandon Victor Dixon and Joshua Henry.

Brian Stokes Mitchell to Bring 'In Character' to Walt Disney Concert Hall

The LA Phil's 2015/16 Songbook Series continues with Brian Stokes Mitchell at Walt Disney Concert Hall on Saturday, February 6, 2016, at 8:00 PM. The Tony®-winning singer, actor, arranger and musician joins long-time pianist and collaborator,Tedd Firth, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, led by conductor Kevin Stites, for 'In Character,' an evening of Broadway tunes filled with beauty, joy, whimsy, romance, and Stokes' signature, inspired vocal interpretations. Expanding on his most recent album, Simply Broadway (which USA Todaydeemed as 'one of the best albums of 2012'), Stokes will perform such Broadway classics as 'I, Don Quixote,' 'Feeling Good,' 'Wheels of a Dream' and 'It Ain't Necessarily So,' among many others.

Savion Glover, Patricia Smith and Christian McBride Named NJPAC Artistic Advisers

New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) is pleased to announce the appointment of three extraordinary voices and game-changing innovators as Artistic Advisers award-winning tap dancer and choreographer Savion Glover (pictured, left), America's preeminent jazz bassist, Christian McBride, and nationally acclaimed poet Patricia Smith.

He's going to put a smile on your face and song in your heart. MAURICE HINES TAPPIN' THRU LIFE is a swinging, song and dance musical that celebrates the astonishing showmanship of one of the last great tap dancers of a by-gone era still working today and whose collaborators were a jaw-dropping, who's who of theatre, music, film and television. Co-starring the fierce tap dancing Manzari brothers and the all female vivacious Diva Jazz Orchestra, the show is directed by Jeff Calhoun (Newsies, Deaf West's Big River, Grease). Performances began December 23rd at New World Stages (340 W. 50th Street), and opened just last night, January 11th. Check out photos from the big night below!

French Embassy & FIAF to Host TILT KIDS FESTIVAL in Spring 2016

The Cultural Services of the French Embassy and the French Institute Alliance Francaise (FIAF) today announced programming for the inaugural Tilt Kids Festival. The new cultural festival for families will feature multidisciplinary international work paired with commissions from New York artists, including five premieres. Tilt Kids Festival runs from March 4 through April 3. Tickets will go on sale December 23 at www.tiltkidsfestival.org.

The show marks a reunion for legendary tap dancer and choreographer Savion Glover and director George C. Wolfe, who first worked together in Broadway's JELLY'S LAST JAM. In the preview below, Wolfe chats about what fascinates him about the subject matter.

CSC Now Enrolling for Spring Dance Conservatory

The professional Centenary Stage Company (CSC) is accepting enrollment into their Dance Conservatory courses for the spring semester. With professional instructors and schedules fit for working adults and teens, these programs are suitable for amateurs and professionals. The Conservatory of Dance provides the community with affordable, high-quality dance classes and is designed to introduce dancers to professionals who are currently working as choreographers, dancers and educators in dance and theatre at a collegiate level. Classes will run from January 19 - May 9. No classes March 21 - March 25.

Audra McDonald-Led SHUFFLE ALONG Shifts Spring Opening to April 28

BroadwayWorld has just learned that Shuffle Along Or The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed has shifted its spring performance schedule. Instead of opening on April 21, 2016, the show will now open on April 28, with previews beginning on March 15.

American Rhythm Center to Host Free Classes and More This January

Chicago Human Rhythm Project (CHRP), the nation's premier presenter of American tap dance and international contemporary percussive arts, kicks off a new year with two events: its Winter DANCE Free-4-All, a week of FREE classes January 4-9, and its annual Winter Tap JAMboree, featuring master classes, auditions for the Tap Scholar Program and Nicholas Young's Institute For The Rhythmic Arts (IFTRA), the return of the Tap Off competition and a Tap JAM January 22-24.

Last night, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's holiday season at New York City Center kicked off with an Opening Night Gala Benefit. The one-night-only benefit performance and party honored BNY Mellon for its major support of the Ailey Organization since 2007, and Agnes & Gerald Hassell accepted on the institution's behalf.  Film star Chadwick Boseman and actress and Grammy-Award winning artist Brandy served as Honorary Chairs, and the event's co-chairs were Simin Allison, Kathryn & Kenneth Chenault, Debra L. Lee, Doris & Gilbert Meister, Daria L. & Eric J. Wallach and Joan & Sandy Weill. $2.5 million was raised in support of the creation of new works, scholarships to The Ailey School, and Ailey's extensive educational programs for young people.
