SOPAC will present an exciting and unique dance showcase featuring three different genres of dance; Modern, Tap, and one that fuses West African Dance with the more contemporary Modern style. The Triple Threat Dance Showcase features performances inspired by the African diaspora, a modern dance company that is renowned for creating emotionally-driven work with a bold athletic style, and the joy and infectious spirit of the uniquely American art form called tap. Umoja Dance Company, Freespace Dance, NJ TAP Dance Ensemble, and will perform their idiomatic talents in a rare night that features three strikingly different types of dance. The Cultural Services of the French Embassy and the French Institute Alliance Francaise (FIAF) today announced programming for the inaugural Tilt Kids Festival. The new cultural festival for families will feature multidisciplinary international work paired with commissions from New York artists, including five premieres. With professional instructors and schedules fit for working adults and teens, these programs are suitable for amateurs and professionals. The Conservatory of Dance provides the community with affordable, high-quality dance classes and is designed to introduce dancers to professionals who are currently working as choreographers, dancers and educators in dance and theatre at a collegiate level. Classes will run from January 19 - May 9. No classes March 21 - March 25.

Last night, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's holiday season at New York City Center kicked off with an Opening Night Gala Benefit. The one-night-only benefit performance and party honored BNY Mellon for its major support of the Ailey Organization since 2007, and Agnes & Gerald Hassell accepted on the institution's behalf. Film star Chadwick Boseman and actress and Grammy-Award winning artist Brandy served as Honorary Chairs, and the event's co-chairs were Simin Allison, Kathryn & Kenneth Chenault, Debra L. Lee, Doris & Gilbert Meister, Daria L. & Eric J. Wallach and Joan & Sandy Weill. $2.5 million was raised in support of the creation of new works, scholarships to The Ailey School, and Ailey's extensive educational programs for young people.
