TerraNova Collective Presents 'SUBTERRANEAN' Starting 1/8/09

terraNOVA Collective is proud to announce Subterranean, a new monthly party in the D-Lounge, a 75-seat cabaret-style venue below the D?R?2 Theatre at 101 East 15th Street at Union Square, commencing on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at 10:00pm. As the newest addition to terraNOVA's residency at the D?R?2 Theatre complex, Subterranean will present a variety of performers, including spoken word, music, burlesque, magic, storytelling, short play readings, vaudeville acts and DJs.

Joyce Theater Announces 2009 Spring Season

The Joyce 2009 season kicks off on February 3 with Buglisi Dance Theatre presenting two different programs that will include three NYC premieres and one world premiere. Ronald K. Brown's Brooklyn-based Evidence, A Dance Company returns to The Joyce this year with an exciting NYC premiere, and Doug Varone and Dancers - back for its 10th Joyce season - also will feature a NYC premiere. Following them is the audience favorite Savion Glover, for a three-week season of electrifying tap set to Flamenco music. Then Ballet-Tech, under the Artistic Direction of Joyce founder Eliot Feld, will present two programs of post-classicism work with its 'Mandance Project.'

An invitation-only, closed-door jazz session officially launches the Broadway musical 'Bricktop, Queen of the Night,' (original music and lyrics by Ron Abel and Chuck Steffan) based on the life of Ada 'Bricktop' Smith. The musical is being produced by Paul Lambert, Jonas Neilson and Whoopi Goldberg.

Menzel, Latifah and Knowles Pay Tribute to Streisand at Kennedy Center Honors

The Huffington Post reports that Barbra Streisand got an awkward kiss on the cheek from the president, and yes, she gave him a smooch back, Streisand, a vocal critic of President George W. Bush, was a guest Sunday at the White House just before one of Washington's few A-list events: the Kennedy Center Honors.

Theatrical Greats Laud Kennedy Center Honorees in Variety

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts selected the individuals who will receive the Kennedy Center Honors of 2008. Recipients to be honored at the 31st annual national celebration of the arts are: actor Morgan Freeman, singer George Jones, actress and singer Barbra Streisand, choreographer Twyla Tharp, and musicians Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey of The Who. They were given personal kudos by some of their talented peers in Variety.

Tap Legacy Foundation Celebrates 20th Anniversary 2/14/09

The Tap Legacy Foundation, dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the art of tap dance, celebrates the anniversary of its founding on Saturday, February 14, 2009 with a 20th anniversary screening of the classic 1989 dance film, Tap, starring Gregory Hines and Sammy Davis, Jr., at the Directors Guild Theatre in NYC. The screening will be preceded by an announcement of the launch of the Foundation's first Capital Campaign, and followed by a Champagne Reception for all ticket holders. In honor of the film's anniversary, the first 50 ticket buyers will be able to purchase tickets at the 1989 ticket price of $7.00(regular prices are $25). Tickets will go on sale December 1.

Celebrating the life and work of Broadway Veterans BJ Crosby & Adrian Bailey, this exciting evening will feature performances by Broadway's Chuck Cooper, Marva Hicks, Ebony Jo-Ann, Tina Fabrique, Alyson Williams, The Broadway Boys, Chester Gregory, Multi Award Winning Recording Artist Tonex (currently spelled: 'TON3X') and many more on Monday, November 3rd at The Schomburg Center For Research in Black Culture located in Harlem.

George C. Wolfe to Direct Special Concert in Honor of Luther Henderson at Juliard

While it may take a village to raise a child, an impressive team of award-winning celebrities along with The Juilliard School, New York State Governor David A. Paterson, and other notables have taken the lead to collaborate in support of students of color at Juilliard via a scholarship benefit concert honoring legendary Juilliard alumnus, Luther Henderson, Mr. Henderson, who died in 2003, was a gifted American arranger, composer and orchestrator with an extraordinary talent for creating music for choreographic movement.

9 to 5 Begins Previews On 3/24 at Marquis Theatre

Producer Robert Greenblatt announced today that 9 To 5: The Musical, based on the 20th Century Fox motion picture, will begin previews on Broadway Tuesday, March 24, 2009, and will open Thursday, April 23, 2009, at the Marriott Marquis Theatre (1535 Broadway). 9 To 5: The Musical marks the Broadway debut of seven-time Grammy Award winning singer, songwriter and musician Dolly Parton as composer and lyricist. The musical's book by Patricia Resnick is based on her original story and screenplay for the smash 1980 film comedy.

Broadway by the Year: 1954

Scott Siegel turned the Town Hall into a time machine once again in the most lighthearted BBTY yet.
