Met Museum to Display MANUS X MACHINA: FASHION IN AN AGE OF TECHNOLOGY, 5/5/16

(New York, October 14, 2015)—The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced today that The Costume Institute's spring 2016 exhibition will be manus x machina: fashion in an age of technology, on view from May 5 through August 14, 2016(preceded on May 2 by The Costume Institute Benefit).  Presented in the Museum's Robert Lehman Wing and Anna Wintour Costume Center, the exhibition will explore the impact of new technology on fashion and how designers are reconciling the handmade and the machine-made in the creation of haute couture and avant-garde ready-to-wear.

Metropolitan Museum Opens Costume Institute's Spring 2015 Exhibition Today

The Costume Institute's spring 2015 exhibition, China: Through the Looking Glass, will be on view at The Metropolitan Museum of Art from today, May 7 through August 16, 2015 (preceded on May 4 by The Costume Institute Benefit). Presented in the Museum's Chinese Galleries and Anna Wintour Costume Center, the exhibition will explore the impact of Chinese aesthetics on Western fashion and how China has fueled the fashionable imagination for centuries. In this collaboration between The Costume Institute and the Department of Asian Art, high fashion will be juxtaposed with Chinese costumes, paintings, porcelains, and other art, including films, to reveal enchanting reflections of Chinese imagery.

The New York City Ballet Launches 2015 Spring Season Tonight

New York City Ballet will open its 2015 Spring Season tonight, April 28 with three programs of 12 landmark Black & White ballets by George Balanchine: Monumentum pro Gesualdo, Movements for Piano and Orchestra, Concerto Barocco, Episodes, The Four Temperaments, Apollo, Agon, Duo Concertant, Symphony in Three Movements, Square Dance, Le Tombeau de Couperin, and Stravinsky Violin Concerto. The ballets will be performed in 11 performances during the first two weeks.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced today that The Costume Institute's spring 2015 exhibition will be Chinese Whispers: Tales of the East in Art, Film, and Fashion, on view from May 7 through August 16, 2015 (preceded on May 4 by The Costume Institute Benefit). Presented in the Museum's Chinese Galleries and Anna Wintour Costume Center, the exhibition will explore how China has fueled the creative imagination for centuries, resulting in layers of cultural translations, re-translations, and mistranslations. In this collaboration between The Costume Institute and the Department of Asian Art, high fashion will be juxtaposed with Chinese costumes, paintings, porcelains, and other art, as well as Chinese films to reveal ongoing dialogues between East and West, past and present.

Procter & Gamble and Alexander McQueen Announce Fragrance License Agreement

The Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE: PG) and Alexander McQueen today announced that P&G Prestige has signed a contract to enter into a license agreement with Alexander McQueen to manufacture and sell designer fragrance products. Effective immediately, P&G will begin to develop and market fragrances under the Alexander McQueen brand name to expand their business into the fine fragrance category.

Stella McCartney Wins Designer of the Year

The 2012 British Fashion Awards were held last night at The Savoy Hotel in London. The event was hosted by Gemma Arterton and Nick Grimshaw and celebrated the best of the British and international fashion industries. Guests and presenters included BFC Ambassador Samantha Cameron, Valentino, Manolo Blahnik CBE, Stella McCartney, Sarah Burton, Zaha Hadid DBE, Christopher Kane and Alexa Chung.
