Shakespeare's Globe and Sonia Friedman Productions are delighted to announce the West End transfer of Claire van Kampen's critically-acclaimed new play Farinelli and the King, directed by John Dove, designed by Jonathan Fensom and starring Mark Rylance (Wolf Hall, Jerusalem, Richard III, Twelfth Night), as King Philippe V of Spain. Sam Crane will once again play the acting role of Farinelli, while the singing role will be reprised by opera star, Iestyn Davies and shared withRupert Enticknap. The rest of the cast will also transfer with Huss Garbiya playing Doctor Jose Cervi, Melody Grove playing Isabella Farnese, Colin Hurley as Metastasio and Edward Peel as De la Cuadra. English Touring Theatre today announces that Stephen Mangan will join the company as Patron, working alongside Ian McKellen who has been a Patron since 1993.
Tim Crouch, Paul Hunter and Hattie Morahan will each appear in acclaimed Iranian playwright Nassim Soleimanpour's one-person show Blank as part of RADAR, the Bush Theatre's annual festival of new writing. The show's UK premiere will feature a different performer reading a sealed script every night. Paul Hunter will appear on 19th November, Tim Crouch on 20th November, and Hattie Morahan on 21st November.
Following a sold-out run at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse at the Globe earlier this year, Claire van Kampen's first play, Farinelli and the King, has transferred to the Duke of York's for a limited run this autumn. Starring Mark Rylance as King Philippe V of Spain, it tells the story of Farinelli, an exquisite castrato singer who was brought to Spain to sing for the King and the production focuses on the special relationship that formed between the two.
The Tabard Theatre in West London plays host to Colette and Anita Loos' GIGI for a limited run, Wednesday 28th October - Saturday 21st November. Last seen in London 60 years ago, this production is directed by veteran New York and London producer/director Mark Giesser.
