With the recent publication of I Loved You More(Hawthorne Books, $18.95), his fifth novel, Tom Spanbauer takes on a new landscape in publishing while wrestling with history--most conspicuously his own. The novel moves from New York City in the '80s to Portland, Ore., in the '90s, as a love triangle develops between a gay man, his straight friend and the woman who loves both. Now comes The Heart of the Order: Baseball Poems, edited by Gabriel Fried with a foreword by Daniel Okrent (Persea Books). The verses are not haiku, but I set aside my esthetic preference and found some fine poetry.
