BWW Reviews: CINDERELLA Steals Hearts in Lyrical Production at Washington National Opera
by Jeffrey Walker
- May 11, 2015
CINDERELLA wins more than bracelets in Washington National Opera's closing opera of the season. Featuring the auspicious debut of American mezzo soprano Isabel Leonard (2013 Richard Tucker Winner), Rossini's comic and lyrical romantic opera weaves an easy spell. CINDERELLA – “La Cenerentola” – is conducted with skill and precision by Italian conductor Speranza Scappucci, also making her WNO debut.
The role of Isabella (Cinderella) is sung by Leonard on May 13, 16, 19 and 21. Alternating the role with Leonard, is Irish mezzo Tara Erraught, making not only her WNO debut but her first American opera appearance. Erraught is Isabella on May 11, 15, and the matinee on May 17.

BWW Reviews: REBECCA, Birmingham Rep Theatre, April 27 2015
by Jenny Antill
- Apr 28, 2015
Daphne du Maurier's most famous novel Rebecca - written in 1938 - is spectacularly brought back to life by Kneehigh Theatre Company's current UK tour. "Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again" is the iconic line starting and ending the performance and from the moment it is first uttered, the audience are hooked. Du Maurier is a master storyteller and with all the twists and turns, it is a hugely engaging piece of theatre. It has been ten years since I last saw the play but it still feels as fresh and timeless as ever.
