Have you ever heard the expression, "nice house, nobody home?" Often, we use that phrase as a way to describe singers who make pretty sounds, but who fail to capture our imagination on the stage. To be a singer in the theater, it's a very rare performer who can reach out to the auditors or the audience and make them feel something; however, it is the most essential quality a performer can embody if they want to work in this business.

Lookingglass Theatre's season opener, the ironically life-affirming LIFE SUCKS, might as well have been titled 'Love Sucks,' because every character's issues stem from that all-encompassing drive to connect with the person with whom they think completes them.

This fall, the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts transforms much of its campus into a lively Little Italy themed street party as it celebrates For The Record: Scorsese - American Crime Requiem. The Wallis and For The Record-the acclaimed company that began in a small bar in East Hollywood in 2010 and whose performances have quickly become must see shows-combine forces to pay homage to the visceral world of Martin Scorsese in a new co production that revolutionizes the musical theater experience and brings the legendary filmmaker's epic soundtracks to life in a new generation cabaret, from September 21 through October 16. The School of Theatre at Florida State kicks off its 2016-17 season with Seminar by Theresa Rebeck. Seminar focuses on four young, aspiring novelists who sign up for a private writing seminar, thinking they will be getting sage advice regarding their work. Instead, their lessons are more personal in nature and touch on every aspect of their lives. Unorthodox and relentless methods by their professor leave the students questioning if they'll even survive.
AZ Opera's Rusalka Presents Magical Version of LITTLE MERMAID

Dark forests, woodland sprites and an evil witch, 'Jezibaba' come to the Arizona Opera stage as the company presents its first ever production of Dvo?ak's Rusalka. The story follows the classic Hans Christian Andersen fairytale 'Little Mermaid' with dramatic flair as the mermaid Rusalka seeks to be part of the human world. This new production will be set in the Habsburg Empire of the 1800s and features the show-stopping aria, 'Song to the Moon'. Rusalka is sung in Czech with English supertitles.
