Nominations have been announced for this year's Laurence Olivier Awards, London's equivalent of the Tonys. The awards, which were created in 1976 will be given out on Sunday March 8, 2009 in a ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel.

In a year when new musical theatre productions in London consisted of juke box transfers, classic revivals, whimsical adventure stories and majestic failures, one might be forgiven for thinking that the age of great new musicals exists merely in days of Auld Lang Syne. So let's pause and think back over the year's musical fayre.

UK theatre website WhatsOnStage.com reports that a number of West End musical stars recorded a special edition of the BBC's Weakest Link quiz show, due for broadcast on New Year's Eve.

Casting has been announced for the London production of Jersey Boys, the Tony Award award-winning Broadway musical. Broadway actor Sean Palmer, who is playing 'Chip' in ENO'shit production of On the Town, will play the leading role of 'Prince Eric' in the forthcoming Broadway production of Disney's The Little Mermaid.

Joshua Dallas, Ryan Molloy and Sean Palmer will star as Gabey, Ozzie, and Chip in ENO's production of the original 'New York, New York' musical On the Town. Having broke ENO box office records in 2005, On the Town will return to the London Coliseum for 20 performances, April 20 through May 25 2007.
