Four Vocal Soloists and Montclair State University Chorale Join NJ Symphony for Verdi's REQUIEM, 4/3-6

The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Jacques Lacombe present Verdi's mammoth Requiem April 3-6 in Newark, New Brunswick and Morristown with soprano Marianne Fiset, mezzo-soprano Janara Kellerman, tenor Russell Thomas, bass Peter Volpe and the Montclair State University Chorale. Thomas returns to NJSO stages after his performance of Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde with the Orchestra in January. The April 5 performance at the State Theatre in New Brunswick is the NJSO's third College Night event of the season.

North Carolina Opera Presents RUSALKA, 3/30

North Carolina Opera, under the leadership of General Director Eric Mitchko and Artistic Director & Principal Conductor Timothy Myers, presents Antonín Dvorák's Rusalka in Meymandi Concert Hall at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts in Raleigh on Sun. Mar. 30 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $27-$85 and may be purchased online at www.ncopera.org or by phone at 919.792.3850. This production ofRusalka is sung in Czech with English surtitles. Timothy Myers conducts the performance, which is staged by Crystal Manich. This production of Rusalka, with lighting design by Ross Kollman, is “semi-staged” in that the conductor and orchestra appear on stage behind the principal singers and stage action. NCO's previous semi-staged productions include Aida, Il trovatore and Faust.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic and Gustavo Dudamel to Release Recording of JOHN ADAMS: THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO THE OTHER MARY, 3/11

One of the most powerful concert experiences of recent seasons is about to become one of the most significant releases of the new year: Gustavo Dudamel conducts the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Master Chorale, along with an outstanding cast featuring Kelley O'Connor, Tamara Mumford and Russell Thomas, in Deutsche Grammophon's world-premiere recording of composer John Adams' internationally acclaimed The Gospel According to the Other Mary. Adams' “21st-century masterpiece” (Los Angeles Times) will be released on the Yellow Label on March 11, 2014.

NJSO & Winter Festival to Present Tan Dun Earth Concerto, 1/17-19

The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Jacques Lacombe present Mahler's masterful Das Lied von der Erde and the U.S. premiere of Tan Dun's Earth Concerto January 17-19 in Princeton, Newark and Morristown. The program opens the NJSO's 2014 Winter Festival: Earth-the fourth and final season of a multi-year odyssey spotlighting the symbolic power of natural elements that have inspired composers for centuries.

Alan Gilbert Directs NY Phil in U.S. Premiere of Mark-Anthony Turnage's FRIEZE, Now thru 10/9

Music Director Alan Gilbert will conduct the New York Philharmonic in Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 and the U.S. Premiere of Mark-Anthony Turnage's Frieze - written in response to Beethoven's Ninth and co-commissioned by the Royal Philharmonic Society, New York Philharmonic, and BBC Radio 3 - tonight, October 3, 2013, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, October 4 at 8:00 p.m.; Saturday, October 5 at 8:00 p.m.; Tuesday, October 8 at 7:30 p.m.; and Wednesday, October 9 at 7:30 p.m. Part of the Royal Philharmonic Society's 2013 bicentennial, this program reflects the New York Philharmonic's historic link to the Ninth Symphony: the Royal Philharmonic Society (RPS) commissioned the work in 1817, and the New York Philharmonic gave its U.S. Premiere in 1846, for which it commissioned the first English translation of 'Ode to Joy.'

North Carolina Opera Announces 2013-14 Season

On Monday, July 29 the North Carolina Opera announced its new season at a kick-off event hosted by CAM Raleigh. Over 250 fans and friends of the organization excitedly gathered for the unveiling of the new season presented by NCO Artistic Director & Principal Conductor Timothy Myers, and to hear live performances of excerpts from each opera.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic and Classical KUSC continue their annual radio broadcast partnership, reaching over half a million listeners in Southern and Central California. The 13 concerts, recorded during the LA Phil's 2012/13 season, feature the orchestra with an impressive roster of guest artists and conductors. The first broadcast features Gustavo Dudamel leading the LA Phil in Ravel's Pavane for a Dead Princess, the world premiere of Steven Stucky's Symphony and Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, and airs locally on KUSC-FM 91.5 Los Angeles, tonight, April 7, 2013, at 7 PM.

Dudamel Conducts the LA Phil in the World Premiere of THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO THE OTHER MARY, 3/7-10

Following Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic's successful world premiere of LA Phil Creative Chair John Adams' The Gospel According to the Other Mary last season, they present the oratorio in a theatrical setting at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Thursday and Friday, March 7 and 8, at 7:30 pm, and Sunday, March 10, at 2 pm. Once again the Los Angeles Master Chorale and six soloists: mezzo-soprano Kelley O'Connor, contralto Tamara Mumford, tenor Russell Thomas and countertenors Daniel Bubeck, Brian Cummings and Nathan Medley, return for Adams' large-scale LA Phil-commissioned work. The production also features dancers Michael Schumacher, Anani Sanouvi and Troy Ogilvie. Iconoclastic director Peter Sellars oversees the world premiere staging of the work. The project will then be taken on tour with its European premiere during the orchestra's international residency at the Barbican London, and continuing performances in Lucerne and Paris, followed by the East Coast premiere at Avery Fisher Hall in New York.

Lincoln Center Great Perfomers Series Presents the Los Angeles Philharmonic, 3/27-28

The acclaimed Los Angeles Philharmonic and its dynamic music director, Gustavo Dudamel, return to New York for the first time since 2010 for two concerts at Avery Fisher Hall, as part of Lincoln Center's Great Performers series, March 27 and 28, 2013. Maestro Dudamel and the Orchestra arrive at Lincoln Center with two adventurous programs of 20th and 21st century music which showcases the ensemble's place as one of the world's most forward-thinking orchestras, including the New York premiere of a co-commissioned work by the eminent American composer John Adams.

Seattle Opera Announces 50th Anniversary Season

Seattle Opera today announced the company's 50th Anniversary Season. Performances of Wagner's Ring kick off the festivities this summer, followed by a subscription series of four operas. Starring singers beloved by the opera-goers of Seattle, the 2013/14 season offers subscribers a healthy variety of comedy and tragedy, reality and fantasy, in a mix of different musical styles and languages. Seattle Opera's anniversary celebration then climaxes in August 2014 with the International Wagner Competition and a special celebration honoring Speight Jenkins, the company's General Director since 1983.
