After announcing this morning that he will return to the Royal Shakespeare Company this summer, Patrick Stewart has also announced that he will be returning to the Young Vic next year. He will appear as William Shakespeare in Edward Bond's 1973 play Bingo, a play he first appeared in back in April 2010 at Chichester Festival's Minerva theatre.

The Royal Shakespeare Company's (RSC) acclaimed production of Julius Caesar directed by Lucy Bailey will join the schedule for the Company's Lincoln Center Festival residency this summer at Park Avenue Armory replacing Antony and Cleopatra, it was announced today by Nigel Redden, Director, Lincoln Center Festival, Michael Boyd, RSC Artistic Director, and Rebecca Robertson, President and CEO, Park Avenue Armory.
Peter DuBois will direct the British premiere of Gina Gionfriddo's Becky Shaw, from 13 January and running until 5 March, with press night on 20 January 2011.
According to an article by Baz Bamigboye for UK Daily Mail, stage and screen star Patrick Stewart is set to join the Royal Shakespeare Company production of THE MERCHANT OF VENICE. Stewart will star as Shylock in the production, which is set to be directed by Rupert Goold. Though an agreement has been made between Stewart and RSC, he has not yet signed the contract. Rehearsals will begin in late March.
The Broadway production of David Mamet's A Life in the Theatre, starring Patrick Stewart and T.R. Knight closed on November 28, 2010. The show opened on October 12th at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. Its limited engagement was scheduled to play through January 2nd, 2011. Now back home in London, Patrick Stewart spoke to the UK Independent about what he calls 'extraordinarily difficult' ticket sales, saying that he knows of 'between eight and a dozen other productions imminently facing the axe.' There is a theatre-going habit which is really entrenched in this country.'
