BWW Reviews: POLTERGEIST Solid, Well-Acted, But Unnecessary

POLTERGEIST is a solid, well-acted film with creepy clowns, evil entities, and a few sincere scares. It's not a complete waste of your time or money, but like many remakes you'll question why it's necessary. Consider waiting for it on Netflix or, if you insist on seeing it on the big screen, choose the matinee and avoid paying extra for 3D.

Tickets to PIPPIN at Chicago's Cadillac Palace Theatre on Sale Friday

Broadway In Chicago has announced that individual tickets for the Tony Award winning Broadway Musical PIPPIN will go on sale to the public on Friday, May 29.  PIPPIN will play Chicago's Cadillac Palace Theatre (151 W Randolph) for two weeks only, July 29 - August 9, 2015.

ON THE TOWN Launches Online Ticketing Reservation System

The 2015 Tony nominated musical On The Town announced today a brand new online reservation system, allowing for an online seat reservation prior to a ticket purchase. Beginning Friday, May 22, ticket-buyers can go to OnTheTownBroadway.com and reserve their tickets, at no charge, for an upcoming performance. Once the reservation is complete, the tickets can be paid for at the Lyric Theatre Box Office (213 West 42nd Street) up until one hour prior to curtain.

Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (LCPA) raised a record $10.4 million last night at its Spring Gala honoring Hearst Corporation, as announced by Katherine Farley, chair of Lincoln Center. The event, attended by more than 500 people, lauded Hearst President and CEO Steven R. Swartz, and Executive Vice-chairman and former CEO, Frank A. Bennack, Jr. for the enormous and varied contributions to Lincoln Center made by them as well as by their company. Both men serve on Lincoln Center's Board of Directors; Mr. Bennack was chairman of Lincoln Center from 2005 through 2010, and Mr. Swartz is currently chairman of Lincoln Center's Corporate Fund.

BrightSide Theatre to Present THE SOUND OF MUSIC, 6/12-28

Broadway's ON THE TOWN Will Launch National Tour Next Year; Tony Nominee Tony Yazbeck to Star!

Tony Yazbeck, nominated for a 2015 Tony Award for his leading role in the musical-comedy love letter to New York City ON THE TOWN, will reprise the role of 'Gabey' in select cities on the 2016-2017 national tour.  ON THE TOWN is nominated for four 2015 Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical, Best Performance By a Leading Actor in a Musical (Tony Yazbeck), Best Choreography (Joshua Bergasse), and Best Direction of a Musical (John Rando).

MTC's NORTH BY NORTHWEST Begins in June

Melbourne Theatre Company, in collaboration with Kay + McLean Productions, presents the theatrical spectacular North by Northwest. Adapted by Carolyn Burns and directed by MTC luminary Simon Phillips, this stunning stage adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock's infamous spy thriller stars Matt Day as man-on-the-run, Roger O. Thornhill, and Amber McMahon as the cool blonde, Eve Kendall. This world premiere production opens on Thursday 4 June at Arts Centre Melbourne, Playhouse.

Celebrity Series of Boston Announces 2015-16 Season

?The Celebrity Series of Boston announced its 2015-2016 season today, marking 77 years of bringing the world's greatest performing artists to Boston. The season opens on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 with author and speaker David Sedaris. In total, the 2015-2016 season will include 48 music, dance and entertainment engagements. The 2015-16 season is sponsored by Amy and Joshua Boger.

Chuck Smith to Direct STICK FLY at Windy City Playhouse

Windy City Playhouse, Chicago's newest Equity theater, announces the cast for its sophomore production, Lydia R. Diamond's award-winning Stick Fly. This wisecracking family drama is directed by Chuck Smith, director of the play's 2006 world premiere production in Chicago, fresh off his successful run of Two Trains Running at the Goodman. Smith directs a stellar cast featuring Tyrone Phillips, Celeste Cooper, Paige Collins, Michael Pogue, Kristen Magee and Phillip Edward Van Lear, reprising his role of the patriarch from the original production. Stick Fly runs May 27-July 5 at Windy City Playhouse, 3014 W. Irving Park. Press opening is Sunday, May 31 at 5:00pm.

KINGMAKER to Premiere in West End, May 4

Following its Edinburgh Fringe 2014 sell out success, the critically acclaimed Kingmaker hits The Arts Theatre in London and The Marlborough Theatre at The Brighton Fringe this Spring.  The writers of previous Edinburgh Fringe hits Coalition and Making News and multi-award winning director of Instinct For Kindness and Lockerbie - Unfinished Business have teamed with one of the most respected actors of his generation to present a satirical tale of political intrigue, gamesmanship and ambition in the corridors of power. Alan Cox is directed by Hannah Eidinow in Robert Khan and Tom Salinsky's Kingmaker, the story of a fictional yet strangely familiar political figure whose bumbling bonhomie disguises a fierce determination and a heart of steel.  The subject matter of this biting satire is expected to be brought into sharp focus in the last few days of campaigning for the general election and the inevitable political frenzy that follows during the mad month of May.
