Birmingham Repertory Theatre, in association with Ramps On The Moon, presents THE GOVERNMENT INSPECTOR, written by Nikolai Gogol, adapted by David Harrower and directed by Roxana Silbert. The play will tour the UK from 19th March to 25th June 2016.

With an original publication date back in 1836, Nikolai Gogol's satirical play The Government Inspector is certainly not new writing. Some 180 years on, the text centring on greed and political anarchy in Russia is still being performed. The storyline has had a wealth of incarnations over the years in film, theatre and TV; including a particularly memorable episode of Fawlty Towers. Ultimately a comedy, the play tells of a town expecting a visit from a Government Inspector and before this happens, the Mayor has to try and tidy up/hide all of his wrong doings towards the discontented local people. When a well-dressed and seemingly charming gentleman Khlestakov arrives, the townsfolk all jump to the conclusion that he is the Inspector. But is he?

A vibrant new staging of the great Russian comedy, The Government Inspector, opens at Birmingham Repertory Theatre in March before touring to Ipswich, Leeds, Nottingham, Stratford East, Liverpool and Sheffield.  Directed by Roxana Silbert and adapted by Olivier Award-winning playwright, David Harrower, this fresh, modern version of The Government Inspector, with innovative projection and set design reinvigorates Gogol's satirical masterpiece for 2016.

Back by popular demand, Birmingham Repertory Theatre revives their 2014 production of John Steinbeck's classic Of Mice And Men for a limited run this February. Featuring a new cast, the show will open at The REP on 4 February 2016 before touring the UK until May.

After a decade in London, Improbable's Devoted & Disgruntled (D&D) annual event will take place at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre. Arising from a desire to be more national, available and accessible to people from across the UK, the idea to relocate has been under consideration since the hugely successful D&D Road Show in 2012.

Jonathan Coe's The Rotters' Club, Gareth Farr's The Quiet House and Tom Wells' Folk will receive their stage premieres at Birmingham Repertory Theatre next year. The new Spring and Summer 2016 season also features a ground-breaking new production of The Government Inspector, Don Warrington as King Lear, plus a major revival of Alan Bennett's Single Spies alongside a compelling mix of drama, comedy and family shows.

Meera Syal's much-loved novel bursts onto the stage for the very first time this Autumn. Adapted for the stage by the award-winning playwright, Tanika Gupta, and with specially composed music by Ben and Max Ringham, Anita and Me paints a colourful portrait of village life in 1970's West Midlands during the era of flares, power cuts and glam rock. Directed by Roxana Silbert, the production transfers to Theatre Royal Stratford East from 29 October, after the world premiere at Birmingham REP.

The Ustinov Studio, Bath presents the first production in its autumn 2015 season, Eugene Marin Labiche's MONSIEUR POPULAR, directed by Jeremy Sams.

Birmingham Repertory Theatre are looking for local volunteers to join a community acting company to appear as supernumaries in the world premiere of Meera Syal's Anita And Me this autumn.

Mandeep Dhillon and Jalleh Alizadeh will take leading roles in the stage premiere of Meera Syal's much-loved novel, Anita And Me which opens at Birmingham Repertory Theatre on 9 October (press night Tuesday 13 October).

Birmingham Repertory Theatre today announces its new season of work for Autumn and Winter 2015/16. The announcement comes on the back of a hugely successful year for the theatre, with a 43% increase in audiences during 2014/15 - giving the highest attendance at the theatre for over 20 years.

What if Shakespeare's Macbeth wasn't the end of the story? It's intriguing, isn't it; to consider a world in which Lady Macbeth might have survived, for she would most certainly not have gone quietly into the night. Playwright David Greig thought so too and, beginning March 27th, LA Shakespeare lovers will have a chance to see his modern day sequel to The Scottish Play when the National Theatre of Scotland and the Royal Shakespeare Company bring DUNSINANE to The Wallis in Beverly Hills.

Dunsinane, presented by The Shakespeare Theatre Company through February 21, shows us that the precarious balance among victor, vanquished, and peace-keeper is a timeless dilemma stretching from Macbeth's heaths to the Iraqi dessert. Dunsinane picks up where Shakespeare's Macbeth leaves off, when the English army, camouflaged as forest trees, kills the tyrant and takes the seat of power. But in the confusion of the skirmish a critical and messy mistake is made: the Queen of Scotland, Lady Macbeth, remains alive. With the queen living and with a claim to the throne, many in the country will refuse to accept a newly-installed king.

The Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) presents Dunsinane, playwright David Greig's majestic sequel to Shakespeare's Macbeth, presented by the National Theatre of Scotland and the Royal Shakespeare Company, and directed by Roxana Silbert. First premiered by the Royal Shakespeare Company at Hampstead Theatre in 2010, this tour marks the U.S. premiere of Dunsinane after a highly successful tour to East Asia and Russia in spring 2014. Hailed by The Guardian as 'a work of compelling intelligence, provocation and wit,' Dunsinane will play at the Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW) from tonight, February 4-21, 2015.
