August Wilson's Jitney, a play about a ragtag group of drivers of gypsy cabs-known as jitneys-closes out SCR's 2011-2012 season, with an all-star cast led by Charlie Robinson, who last wowed SCR audiences in another Wilson hit, Fences. Ron OJ Parson, who has previously directed Jitney at St. Louis Black Rep, directs the show, which runs on the Segerstrom Stage from tonight, May 11 - June 10.

Single tickets are also now on sale to the public. Court Theatre today announced its 2012/13 season under the continuing leadership of Artistic Director Charles Newell, Executive Director Stephen J. Albert, Board Chair Virginia Gerst and Deputy Provost of the Arts Larry Norman. The company's 58th season will feature August Wilson's Jitney, directed by Resident Artist Ron OJ Parson; a reimagining of James Joyce's The Deaddirected by Artistic Director Charles Newell with Musical Direction by Doug Peck; David Hare's Skylight directed by William Brown in his Court Theatre debut; and University of Chicago alumnus David Auburn's Proof, also directed by Charles Newell. Newell will close the season by returning to the world of French Baroque with Moliere's The Misanthrope, followed by Tartuffe.

Written by Charles Randolph-Wright with original music by Grammy winner Nona Hendryx, Blue tells the story of the well-to-do Clark family in all their dysfunctional glory. A clan whose success is built on a thriving funeral home business, the Clark family is a bundle of contradictions: diligent hard-working Samuel maintaining the family business; his mother Tillie, as downhome and brutally honest as they come; his sons, Sam and Reuben, trying to find their own way out of the mess; and ruling the roost is his wife Peggy, whose aspirations for class and style push the family bonds to the breaking point. Her only refuge in the turmoil is the music of her idol Blue Williams, who haunts the play with his voice and presence, turning music into memory and who holds the key to the problems of the family.
