Chester Literature Festival kicked off at the weekend, over 120 events will be staged at the award-winning arts centre until 30 November.

Authors Armistead Maupin and Michael Morpurgo, poets Imtiaz Dharker, Benjamin Zephaniah and Lemn Sissay and writer and TV presenter Nadiya Hussain top the bill alongside a raft of writers, storytellers, musicians and spoken word artists.

A busy autumn winter 2019/20 season has been announced at Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse, with brilliant musicals, gripping plays and exciting one night shows.

The bestselling, much-loved author and LGBT activist, Armistead Maupin has announced his first ever UK tour this autumn which will culminate at Storyhouse in Chester as part of the Literature Festival on 11 November.

UK based singer-songwriter Vinny Peculiar [aka Alan Wilkes] has been variously described as “an under-sung national treasure” (UNCUT Magazine) and “the missing link between Jarvis Cocker and Roger McGough” His various bands have included ex members of The Smiths, Oasis, The Fall & Aztec Camera and he's collaborated with Bill Drummond and Luke Haines along the way. 'Return of the Native' is his fourteenth studio album; eleven songs inspired by his return, after many years a northern wag, to his Worcestershire roots.

Poetry pioneers Bang Said The Gun continue their rise as the Best Poetry Night in the UK (voted by the Times) performing a further three shows at Soho Theatre in 2018, having taken their trademark raucous stand-up poetry to the venue last year. English Touring Theatre and Liverpool Playhouse will complete a trilogy of Roger McGough adaptations of classic Moliere comedies with THE MISANTHROPE in spring 2013. The Misanthrope debuted at the Liverpool Playhouse in February 2013 before its national tour.

Following the huge successes of their collaboration on Tartuffe and The Hypochondriac, English Touring Theatre and Liverpool Playhouse complete a trilogy of Roger McGough adaptations of classic Molière comedies with The Misanthrope, which premieres on Tuesday 19th February before a national tour. The 'McGoughière' team will reunite McGough with Everyman and Playhouse Artistic Director Gemma Bodinetz, who will direct this co-production with ETT.
