Arthur Laurents was best known for his work as librettist on Gypsy and West Side Story, but was also well known as a playwright, having won a Tony Award® for Hallelujah, Baby! in 1968. Later as a director, he was Tony-nominated for Gypsy in 1975 (and the 2008 revival) as well as the original 1984 La Cage Aux Folles.

Goodreads Press has published the second edition of Susan L. Schulman's popular memoir, BACKSTAGE PASS TO BROADWAY.  Sub-titled 'MORE True Tales of a Theatre Press Agent,' the second edition includes several new chapters, expanded stories and additional never-before-seen photos from the author's personal collection.

Audiences are loving those dancing feet in Bucks County Playhouse's production of "42nd Street." Sundance Institute and Skywalker Sound today announced the composers and directors selected for the Sundance Institute Film Music and Sound Design Lab, which returns to the legendary Skywalker Sound Facilities for the sixth year. More than half of the composers selected for this year's Lab are female. 

Executive Producer Robyn Goodman, Producing Director Alexander Fraser and Producers Stephen Kocis and Josh Fiedler announced final casting for Bucks County Playhouse's world-premiere concert adaptation of Oscar Hammerstein II and Jerome Kern's legendary musical, 'Show Boat,' which will set sail this Saturday, June 23 at 7 p.m.

Dust off that surrey with the fringe on top! The Ellen Theatre is celebrating the 75th Anniversary of one of America's most beloved musicals! This Rogers and Hammerstein masterpiece opens Friday, July 13th and runs for thirteen performances, featuring a LIVE Orchestra! Thirteen new independent feature projects from the U.S., Cuba, Kenya, Mexico, Morocco, and Palestine have been selected for the 2018 Sundance Institute Directors and Screenwriters Labs. At the Directors Lab (May 28-June 21), filmmakers will rehearse, shoot and edit key scenes from their scripts, working closely with industry advisors, actors, and production crews to help drive creative growth via an immersive and hands-on experience at the Sundance Resort in Utah. The Screenwriters Lab from June 23-28  fosters a similar environment of dynamic inspiration as participants focus on the art and craft of screenplay writing with one-on-one support from Institute advisors . Overseen by Feature Film Program Founding Director Michelle Satter and Labs Director Ilyse McKimmie, the Labs begin a year-round continuum of customized support for Fellows, which can include creative mentorship, granting, and guidance from industry professionals.

More than $585,000 in targeted grants will support a global crop of independent nonfiction storytellers, Sundance Institute announced today. 57% of the supported projects are helmed by women, and 48% are from outside the U.S.; 34% of grantees are first-time feature filmmakers. This cohort is one of two that will be announced this year; projects are selected as part of an ongoing rolling call. 

A classic tap-happy musical and a new production of a legendary Broadway comedy are highlights of Bucks County Playhouse's 2018 Season. Hartford Stage Artistic Director Darko Tresnjak and Managing Director Michael Stotts today announced the cast and creative team for Athol Fugard's A Lesson from Aloes. Ariyon Bakare, Randall Newsome and Andrus Nichols will appear in the revered Fugard drama. The play will perform Today, May 17, through Sunday, June 10 - closing out Hartford Stage's 2017-18 season. Tresnjak will direct.

Two emerging Native storytellers, Erica Tremblay (Seneca-Cayuga) and MorningStar Angeline Wilson (Navajo, Blackfeet, Chippewa Cree) will participate in the 2018 Sundance Institute Native Filmmakers Lab, continuing the Institute's year-round work in the discovery and development of artists from diverse backgrounds.
