by Robert Diamond
- Mar 18, 2011
Today, in honor of THE BOOK OF MORMON in previews on Broadway, we are taking a look at one of the most controversial and well-crafted musicals of the last twenty years - strange as it may seem at first to consider it so - the feature film animated musical adaptation of the Trey Parker/Matt Stone Comedy Central juggernaut SOUTH PARK, SOUTH PARK: BIGGER, LONGER & UNCUT! Plus, we have a glimpse of the three other Parker/Stone musicals, past - CANNIBAL! THE MUSICAL, TEAM AMERICA: WORLD POLICE - and present - THE BOOK OF MORMON - as well as a nod to the man behind much of the music of the SOUTH PARK musical, Marc Shaiman - represented himself by a Broadway musical currently in previews, CATCH ME IF YOU CAN. So, come on down to South Park and see if you can't unwind!

- Mar 16, 2011
AVENUE Q is the smash-hit Broadway musical about real life in New York City, as told by a cast of people and puppets through a hilariously irreverent, Tony-winning book and score. Audiences and critics raved about AVENUE Q when it last played Omaha in 2009, so Omaha Performing Arts and Broadway Across America are bringing the three-time Tony Award winning musical back to the Orpheum for one performance only, Wednesday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m.

Review - The Spidey Project: With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility
by Ben Peltz
- Mar 15, 2011
In the roughly five years between November of 1935 and December of 1940, the team of Rodgers and Hart opened nine new musicals on Broadway. These included revolutionary shows like On Your Toes, which changed the use of dance in musical theatre, and the underappreciated Pal Joey, which brought new sophistication to the characters and themes that could be featured in a musical. There were also popular hits like Babes In Arms, The Boys From Syracuse, Jumbo and Too Many Girls that introduced classic American songbook entries like 'My Funny Valentine,' 'The Lady Is A Tramp,' 'Falling In Love With Love,' 'My Romance' and 'I Didn't Know What Time It Was.'

BWW Reviews: It Doesn't Suck To Be 'AVENUE Q'
by Michael L. Quintos
- Mar 4, 2011
You know you're in for a naughty good time when a show includes graphic puppet sex, cute but sadistic bears, and a special appearance by TV's Gary Coleman. What can somewhat be described as a very, very adult-leaning, expletive-spewing cousin of the iconic PBS children's series Sesame Street, AVENUE Q-whose 2nd National Tour is now playing a too-brief, week-long engagement at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood through March 6-manages to be both entertaining and revolutionary. Timely, surprisingly touching, mildly offensive, harmlessly risque, and downright hilarious, AVENUE Q is easily one the smartest, funniest musical comedies ever to grace a Broadway stage in the last few decades.
