In 1968, the fatal shooting of Robert Francis Kennedy less than 5 years after the assassination of his older brother shook a nation already reeling from the murder of Martin Luther King only two months before. In 2013, the 50thanniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy is being observed across the nation. The Theater Project, a professional company in Maplewood, NJ, will honor the Kennedy legacy with a reading and discussion of the play RFK by Jack Holmes. The play uses many of Kennedy's speeches to evoke his persona and present his political views. The event will take place at the Maplewood Memorial Library, 51 Baker Street, at 2 PM, Saturday, November 2. Admission is free.

Now at the El Portal Monroe Forum, the play, although still in the rough stages, presents an engrossing slant on the human side of Norma Jean, how she affected one average human being, as well as presenting a panorama of historical events of the 60s, woven together by a curiously fictional thread.

Author Loretta Creech's chance encounter with Robert Kennedy while attending Alice Lloyd College in 1968, the sincere, sympathetic look he had given her when she told him how her father had been gunned down during a picket strike only three years back, left a profound mark on her. The Colorado Community Theatre Coalition, a statewide organization to promote and enrich community theatre in Colorado, will be hosting its 25th Annual Theatre Festival August 7 - 10 at the Denver Center Theatre Academy in the Robert and Judi Newman Center for Theatre Education, 1101 13th Street, Denver, CO 80204, right across the street from the Denver Performing Arts Complex. The Colorado Theatre Guild's 8th Annual Henry Awards will take place Monday, July 22, 2013, at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, 6901 Wadsworth Blvd in Arvada, Colorado.
