BAFTA LA Renames Britannia Award

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles (BAFTA Los Angeles) announced today that it will rename its Britannia Award for Worldwide Contribution to Filmed Entertainment in honor of Albert R. 'Cubby' Broccoli, pioneering producer of the James Bond franchise.

Production Commences on ANNA KARENINA Film

Working Title Films has commenced production on Joe Wright's epic love story Anna Karenina, adapted from Leo Tolstoy's classic novel by Academy Award winner Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love). The film will shoot in the U.K. and Russia. Focus Features will distribute the movie domestically, and Universal Pictures International (UPI) will distribute the movie internationally.

'An Evening of Many Cultures' at Met Museum Will Honor Samuel L. Jackson, Robert De Niro, et al.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art's second Multicultural Benefit, 'An Evening of Many Cultures,' will take place on September 26, 2011. Among the honorees will be Samuel L. Jackson, soon to appear on Broadway as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and LaTanya Richardson Jackson; and Academy Award-winning actor Robert De Niro and Grace Hightower De Niro. This black-tie gala is the signature event in celebration of the Museum's Multicultural Audience Development Initiative (MADI), founded in 1998.

John Glover, Max Casella et al. Join Ellen Burstyn in Labyrinth's ATMOSPHERE OF MEMORY

Labyrinth Theater Company has announced final casting for the World Premiere Production of The Atmosphere of Memory by David Bar Katz. Performances begin Saturday, October 15th with Opening Night scheduled for October 30th at Labyrinth's new home, the Bank Street Theater for a limited engagement through Sunday, November 13th.

CBS to Broadcast 9/11: 10 Years Later, Marks 10th Anniversary of WTC Attack

The CBS Television Network and filmmakers Jules and Gedeon Naudet and James Hanlon will present '9/11: 10 YEARS LATER,' an update of the critically acclaimed, multiple award-winning film, '9/11,' to be broadcast on CBS as a special presentation Sunday, Sept. 11 (8:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT), the 10th anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles® (BAFTA Los Angeles) will honor BAFTA and Academy Award winner Warren Beatty with the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film at the 2011 BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Awards on Wednesday, November 30 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Ben Stiller To Receive BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Award 11/30

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles® (BAFTA Los Angeles) will honor Ben Stiller with the Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy at the 2011 BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Awards on Wednesday, November 30 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Daphne Rubin-Vega, Wood Harris Join Broadway's A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE

Stephen Byrd and Alia Jones have announced that the role of 'Stella' will be played by two-time Tony Nominee Daphne Rubin-Vega and the role of 'Mitch' will be played by Wood Harris, in the upcoming Broadway production of A Streetcar Named Desire directed by Emily Mann. They will join Blair Underwood as 'Stanley' and Nicole Ari Parker as 'Blanche'. This production is slated to hit the boards, Spring, 2012. Theatre is TBA.

Melissa Leo to Lead Naked Angels' SIDE MAN Reading, 8/28

Academy and Golden Globe Award winner Melissa Leo will join the cast of the one night only benefit staged reading of celebrated playwright Warren Leight's Tony Award-winning play Side Man, presented by Naked Angels in association with the Guild Hall. As previously announced, the reading will also star acclaimed film, television and theater star Zachary Quinto and original Broadway cast members Jeff Binder, Kevin Geer, Michael Mastro, Angelica Torn, and Tony Award winner Frank Wood. The reading will take place at Guild Hall in East Hampton, NY on Sunday, August 28 at 7pm. Proceeds will go towards Naked Angels' ongoing development of new work.

THE SHOEMAKER Closes at the Acorn 8/14

Susan Charlotte's The Shoemaker, directed by Antony Marsellis, will end performances at The Acorn Theatre (410 W 42 Street) on August 14, 2011. Each performance will be followed with a Q & A with star and Academy Award nominee Danny Aiello.

USA Network Licenses Universal Pictures' Blockbuster Films

In a landmark deal in its scope and quality of high profile titles, USA Network has acquired the network television rights to over 30 films from Universal Pictures, it was announced today by Jane Blaney, executive vice president, programming, acquisitions & scheduling, USA and Frances Manfredi, executive vice president/general sales manager, NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution.
