Full Cast Announced for THE GERSHWINS' PORGY AND BESS at A.R.T.

A.R.T. American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) opens its 2011-12 season with The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess, by George Gershwin, DuBose and Dorothy Heyward, and Ira Gershwin. The adaptation by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks and Obie Award-winning composer Diedre L. Murray, directed by A.R.T. Artistic Director Diane Paulus, with choreography by Ronald K. Brown, begins previews on August 17 and opens for the reviewing press on August 31 at 7pm. Performances are at the Loeb Drama Center, 64 Brattle Street, Cambridge. Tickets for preview performances are currently on sale, remaining tickets for the run go on sale on July 12.

The American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) announced today that John Lithgow will be performing his theatrical memoir Stories By Heart to benefit the A.R.T. on Monday, May 2 at 7:30pm at the Loeb Drama Center, 64 Brattle Street, Cambridge.

ASP Presents Reading Series 4/9-4/11

Actors' Shakespeare Project, in collaboration with The Modern Theatre at Suffolk University, is producing a reading series in early April prior to staging Antony and Cleopatra in the space later in the month. The reading series includes Thomas Middleton's Women Beware Women, directed by ASP company member Sarah Newhouse, and The Last Will by Robert Brustein - a 2011 National Medal of Arts recipient - directed by Daniela Varon.

USC Annenberg Announces 7th NEA Arts Journalism Institute in Theater

The University of Southern California's Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) announced today that applications are now being accepted for the seventh annual Arts Journalism Institute in Theater and Musical Theater.

Robert Brustein, Meryl Streep, et al. to be Awarded National Medal of Arts, 3/2

Tomorrow, President Barack Obama will present the National Medal of Arts to eight recipients for their outstanding achievements and support of the arts. (Ten medalists were announced; however two are not able to attend the ceremony. Their medals will be presented at another time.) The medals will be presented by the president in the East Room ceremony at the White House. Mrs. Michelle Obama will also be in attendance. The National Medal of Arts is a White House initiative managed by the National Endowment for the Arts. Each year, the NEA organizes and oversees the National Medal of Arts nomination process and notifies the artists of their selection to receive a medal, the nation's highest honor for artistic excellence.
