Troubadour Theatre Company to Present A MIDSUMMER SATURDAY NIGHT'S FEVER DREAM
by Tyler Peterson - Jul 10, 2014

Garden Grove is about to get a whole lot funnier with the integration of the critically acclaimed Troubadour Theatre Company's rendition of A Midsummer Saturday Night's Fever Dream in Shakespeare/Summerfest Orange County's 2014 season. This play-off of Shakespeare's classic comedy, directed by Matt Walker, tells this story of magic potions and foolish lovers through some of disco's greatest hits. The production includes a cast made up of acrobats, musicians, improvisers, and clowns, as well as a four piece band and an almost entirely improvised second act.

BWW Reviews: Blood, Guts and Classic Troubie Mayhem in ABBAMEMNON
by Ellen Dostal - Jun 17, 2014

After a particularly long laundry list of names in which Helen of Troy jumps out as the only familiar one, Chorus Leader Rob Nagle says in a completely deadpan voice, 'Don't worry... that's the last name you'll recognize tonight,' and everyone bursts into laughter.

BWW Reviews: The Troubies are Walkin' in a Winter One-Hit-Wonderland
by Ellen Dostal - Dec 16, 2013

The Troubies' traditional holiday mashups are some of the company's most anticipated shows of the year. Past hits like A Christmas Westside Story (A Christmas Story with the music of West Side Story), Rudolph the Red Nosed ReinDOORS (Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and The Doors), and The First Jo-el (the Nativity story via Billy Joel songs) have been unforgettable treasure troves of comedy fun.

BWW Reviews: The Troubies' A MIDSUMMER SATURDAY NIGHT'S FEVER DREAM
by Ellen Dostal - Jun 10, 2013

There are no fewer than nine different productions of A Midsummer Night's Dream playing in theatres around the Southland this summer but I can guarantee that none of them will be done up quite like the Troubies' A MIDSUMMER SATURDAY NIGHT'S FEVER DREAM at the Falcon Theatre.

BWW Reviews: Troubies' RUDOLPH Lights Up Falcon Stage
by Don Grigware - Dec 11, 2012

There is quite frankly no other theatre company in LA like the Troubadour Theater Company or as they like to be nicknamed the Troubies. Therefore, any comparisons are invalid. They compose and perform to the tune of their own drummer to such a high degree of professionalism that their reputation precedes them. Their runs are always sold out in advance. They are that good, indeed! And like most unique groups, they do not rest on their laurels. They aim to do better. Now onstage at the Falcon Theatre through January 13, 2013, the Troubies are slaying the legend of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer to the music of the Doors in the aptly titled Rudolph the Red-Nosed ReinDOORS, and with their true sense of cockeyed unison and never say die, the message of Christmas rings out loud and clear once more.

Falcon Theatre presents Troubadour Theater Company's Rudolph the Red-Nose ReinDOORS, directed by Matt Walker, the third production of its 2012-2013 Subscription Season. Celebrate the Season with the Ovation Award-winning Troubies as they give a wild, stripped-down, bare bones, rock re-telling of the classic holiday tale of Rudolph, with a sexy, sultry, scary soundtrack - and snow. BroadwayWorld brings you photos from last night's opening below!

BWW Reviews: Troubies Score Once More at the Falcon
by Don Grigware - Mar 27, 2012

They've done it again, by George, or should I say, by Will! They've topped themselves once more! The Troubies emerge super victorious with their presentation of Shakespeare's perhaps first ever play Two Gentlemen of Verona to the tunes of the rock band Chicago, renamed - you guessed it - Two Gentlemen of Chicago. Now at the Falcon, it's Shakespeare but in a fashion quite unlike anything the Bard imagined. The original play has a dog Crab, and Roosevelt the Pug (in picture above) lives up to his scene stealing image, making him a new canine star. Cast with the usual Troubie zanies Matt Walker, Beth Kennedy, Rick Batalla, Morgan Rusler and guest Rob Nagle as Valentine and Rue the Pug, Two Gentlemen of Chicago becomes more satisfying than what those other Two Guys offer... well, ok, if that's pizza, then this is like the best darn treat on the planet!

BWW Reviews: Troubies' A CHRISTMAS WESTSIDE STORY Rocks the Falcon
by Don Grigware - Dec 13, 2011

With such memorable Christmas shows before it like It's a Stevie Wonderful Life, Santa Claus Is Comin' to MOTOWN andFrosty the Snow Manilow, A Christmas Westside Story joins the ranks of the Troubies' very, very best. Why? Because everyone's now classic film favorite A Christmas Story blends perfectly with everyone's favorite music from Westside Story. Both entail the pangs of growing up. What better base for drama? And both depict violence - Westside Story on a bigger scale, but there's assuredly more than a glimmer of it in A Christmas Story.

Troubies' CHiPS Rides Into the Falcon
by Don Grigware - Jun 28, 2010

It's always great news when the Troubies return to the Falcon for their summer shows. Two seasons back they lampooned The Brady Bunch and maid Alice in Alice Through the Looking Glass and 60s/70s television sitcoms were never the same. This season they turn to TV drama and the 1977 blockbuster CHiPS - and for the very first time, ladies and gentlemen, the Troubies have created their very own musical score for CHiPS The Musical. Rick Batalla and Matt Walker play the simple-minded Ponch, played originally by Erik Estrada and John Baker, originally played byLarry Wilcox, respectively. Needless to say, skin tight uniforms, Ponch's sexy bod and John's perfect coiff aside, these guys bring new and obscenely funny meaning to being California Highway Patrolmen. Thank Heavens! The Troubies' outrageous parody/improv makes this dull show better than it was, or could be or ever hope to be!
