This Sunday, Play Club kicks off its third year with the second annual Dassie Awards, celebrating theatrical excellence in Cape Town, along with the cynical and witty one-act one-hander THE SANTALAND DIARIES, all at the beautiful new space Miao in De Waterkant.

Long Wharf Theatre, led by Artistic Director Gordon Edelstein and Managing Director Joshua Borenstein, presents Forever, written and performed by Dael Orlandersmith, from January 2 through February 1, 2015 on Stage II. The press opening is Wednesday, January 7 at 7:30 pm.

Last Sunday, Play Club celebrated its second anniversary with a reading of TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, Christopher Sergel's stage adaptation of Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. Play Club is a monthly event in Cape Town that was initiated by Drew Rienstra with the vision of building a community among theatre lovers, including actors, theatre-makers, filmmakers, educators, critics and theatre audiences.

Play Club, 'where scripts go to unwind,' will celebrate its second birthday and third year of monthly readings in Cape Town. For this anniversary, Play Club will dive into Harper Lee's immortal classic novel, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, as adapted by Christopher Sergel, which recently played to rave reviews in a sold-out Regent Park production and subsequent UK tour.

The world premiere of Dael Orlandersmith's "Forever," directed by Center Theatre Group Associate Artistic Director Neel Keller, opened this Sunday, October 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the CTG/Kirk Douglas Theatre. SELF MADE MAN: THE FREDERICK DOUGLASS STORY, a new play written and performed by Phil Darius Wallace, will have its world premiere Off-Broadway at the ArcLight Theatre (152 West 71st Street), beginning Tuesday, November 18th , with opening set for Monday, November 24th.

Lee Krasner (1908-1984) and Norman Lewis (1909-1979) were major contributors to Abstract Expressionism but as a woman and as an African American, respectively, they were often overlooked by the leading critics of their time. From September 12, 2014 through February 1, 2015, the Jewish Museum will present From the Margins: Lee Krasner l Norman Lewis, 1945-1952, a survey of key 1940s and 1950s works by these two powerful painters.This was a transformative period in American painting when both artists were experimenting with approaches that joined abstraction and cultural specificity.
