The Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE) Awards recognize the extraordinary wealth of talent in the Boston theatre community, and this year's nominations have just been announced. Casting for the 61st Music Circus season has been completed. After auditioning performers in New York, Los Angeles and Sacramento, California Musical Theatre Artistic Director Glenn Casale has finalized the acting company for the seven-show season at the Wells Fargo Pavilion, including The Producers, Oliver!, Anything Goes, Camelot, Annie Get Your Gun, I Do! I Do! and Miss Saigon.

The fully-staged, full-length revival of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, a musical based on Betty Smith's iconic American novel of the same name, will close in New York City April 10, 2011.

Cats is best viewed through fresh eyes, probably, when the wonder of the spectacle is first encountered. The show's technical wizardry, in its time mind-boggling and perhaps even revolutionary, is now old hat (although I can certainly let go of my own cynicism long enough to appreciate the very theatricality of the show) and expected.
