Artistic Director Blake Robison announced the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park's 2014-15 season today. A Tony Award-winning tour through the legendary Fats Waller songbook, Ain't Misbehavin' dives into the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s, the golden age of honky-tonk dives, swing music and stride piano players. Considered "a tribute to the timeless appeal of Waller's music" by The New York Times, Ain't Misbehavin' includes classic Waller hits like "Loungin' at the Waldorf" and "I Can't Give You Anything but Love." Ain't Misbehavin' was conceived by Murray Horwitz and Richard Maltby, Jr. and will be directed by Rep Associate Artist Dan Kazemi, who was the Musical Director of End of The Rainbow, A Christmas Carol, Forever Plaid and Ragtime this season at The Rep.
Miss Saigon, currently booking for performances through to Saturday 25th October 2014, will make its highly anticipated return to the West End on Saturday 3 May 2014 at the Prince Edward Theatre, in the musical's 25th anniversary year. Rachelle Ann Go will be the new 'Gigi' in the show and she recently revealed in an interview with Hola! that she has original star Lea Salonga to thank for the role. Go told Hola!: 'It's Miss Lea (Salonga) who really told me to go for the audition. But before that, I got to watch Miss Saigon in Canada in 2010. When I watched it, I told myself, "One day, I will do that." So in 2012, there was an audition and my friends encouraged me, but I was afraid. But eventually, they persuaded me, so I tried it out here in Manila.'
This week there will be two lab presentations in New York City of the new musical, BEHIND THE PAINTING, with book and lyrics by Tony Award-winner Richard Maltby, Jr., music by two-time Tony nominee David Shire, adapted from the Thai musical of the same title, based on the novel by Sriburapha.
Roundabout Theatre Company has announced Tony Award winner Rosemary Harris will play the role of 'Eleanor Swan' in the Off-Broadway premiere of Tom Stoppard's Indian Ink, directed by Carey Perloff. More than 35 of Cash's hit songs including 'I Walk the Line', 'A Boy Named Sue,' 'Folsom Prison Blues' and the title tune, paint a musical portrait of The Man in Black that promises to be a foot-stompin', crowd-pleasin' salute to the uniquely American Legend. Leading the cast as 'Johnny Cash' will be Kent Lewis with Jeff Award-winner Cory Goodrich starring as 'June Carter' and Michael Goodman as 'Young Johnny'. Four talented multi-instrumentalist/performers round out the cast - Greg Hirte, Malcolm Ruhl, Billy Shaffer, and William Underwood.
