Rich in historical content, the play is set in Havana in 1897 in the midst of the Cuban War of Independence (Spanish-American War), and features beautiful writing, fully-realized characters, and evocative design elements.

The Minnesota Orchestra Board Negotiating Committee—aided by a coalition of community supporters—has issued its fourth contract proposal in the ongoing labor dispute with the Musicians' Union. The three-year offer includes an average annual salary of $104,500 and a signing bonus of $20,000 per musician. The Board has requested that the Musicians' Negotiating Committee present the offer to the musicians for a secret ballot before the proposal expires at noon on Monday, September 30.

The Hartt School will welcome acclaimed tenor saxophonist Javon Jackson as Associate Professor of Jazz and Chair of the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz. Jackson, who's appointment begins in August, will serve as the educational and administrative leader for the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz, and will teach, work with ensembles, assist in recruitment and development efforts, and represent the Institute and The Hartt School both internally and externally.
