Pia Wilson's BACK TO THE REAL Set for NJPAC This June

Back to the Real is a play about a brother and sister who must navigate the potholes along the way to becoming actual adults. The play explores race, colorism within the African-American community, sexism, and anti-LGBTQ sentiment. How are the brother and sister going to (or not going to) stand up for each other?

Write Act Repertory's LILI MARLENE Opens 7/25

Musical Theatre West Adds Additional Performance of MARY POPPINS

Musical Theatre West brings a "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious," production of Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's Mary Poppins to the Carpenter Performing Arts Center July 7-23.  Due to an overwhelming demand, MTW has added an additional and final performance on Sunday, July 23, 6:00 pm.  Practically perfect in every way, it's a high flying fun filled adventure for the young and young at heart.  Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's production features the delectable Sherman Brothers score, including 'A Spoonful of Sugar,' 'Jolly Holiday,' 'Let's Go Fly a Kite,' 'Step in Time,' and 'Chim Chim Cher-ee," as well as new musical additions, by the Olivier winning team of George Stiles and Anthony Drewe.   Tickets for the added performance go on sale Wednesday, June 21, 10am at www. musical.org, at the MTW Ticket Office, or by calling (562) 856-1999, ext. 4.  Best seats are available for this performance.  Tickets start at $20.

BWW Previews: FRIDA at Cincinnati Opera Offers an Insightful View of the Artist

In a unique production, Cincinnati Opera offers FRIDA by composer Robert Xavier Rodriguez with libretto by Hilary Blecher and Migdalia Cruz.  An opera filled with music drawn from Mexican folklore and American influences, such as George Gershwin, FRIDA covers the life of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo (1907 - 1954). 

Kozlova Int'l Ballet Competition Announces Winners

The Valentina Kozlova International Ballet Competition hosted just under 200 dancers from countries around the world for the June 6-10 event at Symphony Space, New York City.  The rich display of international talent was breathtaking as dancers in four categories, ages 11 to 26, performed for medals, scholarships to dance academies around the world, and company contracts with the Boston Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, and Columbia Classical Ballet. 

2017 Yale Institute for Music Theatre: Cast and Creative Team Announced

The YALE INSTITUTE FOR MUSIC THEATRE (Mark Brokaw, Artistic Director) announces the creative teams and casting for the two original book musicals, COWBOY BOB, created by Molly Beach Murphy, Jeanna Phillips, and Annie Tippe, book by Molly Beach Murphy, music and lyrics by Jeanna Phillips; and GUMBO, music by Brett Macias and book and lyrics by Christina Quintana, conceived by Brett Macias and Christina Quintana, which are being developed in an intensive two-week summer lab at Yale School of Drama, June 13-24. Scott Frankel is the Artistic Advisor, and Catherine Sheehy is the resident Dramaturg for this year's Institute, which culminates with open rehearsal readings of each project, presented as part of New Haven's International Festival of Arts & Ideas on June 23 and 24.

Juilliard Breaks Ground in China, Releases Designs for The Tianjin Juilliard School

The Juilliard School broke ground today on its first overseas campus, The Tianjin Juilliard School, marking a significant milestone in the school's ongoing expansion into Asia. As part of the ceremony, Joseph W. Polisi, president of Juilliard; Alexander Brose, executive director and C.E.O. of The Tianjin Juilliard School; and Charles Renfro, Partner and architect at Diller Scofidio + Renfro, unveiled preliminary designs for the new facility. Diller Scofidio + Renfro is the same firm that oversaw the 2009 renovations of Juilliard's New York City campus and the redevelopment of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra to Honor Service Men & Women at AMERICANA CONCERT
