Cal Shakes Opens 2017 Season with AS YOU LIKE IT

Director Desdemona Chiang makes her Cal Shakes debut, infusing Shakespeare's  romantic comedy with the vibrant, complicated, and shifting energy of the Bay Area.   Berkeley, CA, April 26 - California Shakespeare Theater begins its 43rd Season with Shakespeare's gender-bending comedy, As You Like It. In director Desdemona Chiang's all new production, adaptable and resilient Rosalind must leave everything she knows behind to find her true family.

Ma-Yi Theater Company and Producing Artistic Director, Ralph B. Peña and Executive Director, Jorge Z. Ortoll have announced the 28th Anniversary Gala honoring legendary prima ballerina of Ballet Philippines and Alvin Ailey Dance Company, Elizabeth Roxas Dobrish, and creators and patrons of the arts, Frank and Lolita Valderrama Savage.

Artists at Play to Workshop TOT: THE UNTOLD, YET SPECTACULAR STORY OF (A FILIPINO) HULK HOGAN

Artists at Play will workshop Victor Maog's tot: The Untold, Yet Spectacular Story of (a filipino) Hulk Hogan, followed by multiple readings in May across Los Angeles through a partnership with the Los Angeles Public Library LA Made series and AAP's Annual Reading series. Rodney To will direct Maog's comedy, which will be free for the public to attend.  

spit&vigor to Stage Workshop Production of NEC SPE / NEC METU

spit&vigor has announced the workshop performance of NEC SPE / NEC METU, written by Sara Fellini (winner - 2014 Planet Connnections Award for Outstanding New Script, nominated - 2015 NYIT Award for Outstanding Full Length Script) and directed by Pat Diamond (Yale School of Drama, Manhattan School of Music).

The Semitic Root presents THE STRANGEST

The Strangest invites audiences into an immersive theatrical experience in which they enter a traditional Arab storytelling cafe, where for centuries masters of the oral tradition wove tales of intrigue. The Strangest is an absurdist murder mystery loosely inspired by the unnamed Arab killed in Albert Camus' classic novel, The Stranger. Experience French Algiers on the brink of revolution, and witness three Arab brothers vie for the love of the same woman. Their bitter rivalry ends only when one is gunned down by a French stranger.Written by Betty Shamieh ( The Black Eyed, Roar, Fit for a Queen) and directed by May Adrales ( Vietgone, Luce). 

Artists at Play and the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center Share Women's Stories of Internment and Resilience

Chay Yew's frank drama, Question 27, Question 28 will be presented by Artists at Play and the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center in conjunction with the 75th anniversary of the signing of Executive Order 9066. The reading is directed by Alison De La Cruz and will perform on Sunday, February 26 at 3 pm at the Black Box in the Aratani Theatre. Ticket reservations are available at http://bit.ly/2k4KJku.

Keen Teens Series to Continue with AND...ACTION and More This Spring

The Drama Desk and Obie Award-winning Keen Company will present the Eleventh Season of Keen Teens. This season's offerings will be And... Action by Eleanor Burgess directed by Julie Kramer; Rat Court by Boo Killebrew, directed by Daisy Walker; and Tilda Swinton Betrayed Us by A. Rey Pamatmat, directed by Zi Alikhan.

Love, Laughs, and Ninja Fights in Seattle Rep's VIETGONE

Seattle Repertory Theatre presents Vietgone, the highly anticipated new play, produced in association with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, from up-and-coming playwright Qui Nguyen (Vampire Cowboys). Vietgone loosely chronicles Nguyen's parent's journey from Vietnam to American in 1975, with a quirky approach Nguyen describes as 'a sex comedy about my parents.' With direction by May Adrales, who has been with the show since its inception, Vietgone will run December 2, 2016-January 1, 2017 (opening night is December 7, 2016) in the Leo K. Theatre.
