Emeritus Kurt Masur to Conduct TWO PATHS at NY Philharmonic, 4/13

New York Philharmonic Music Director Emeritus Kurt Masur will conduct the Philharmonic in Liszt's Les Préludes, Sofia Gubaidulina's Two Paths: Music for Two Solo Violists and Symphony Orchestra, performed by Principal Viola Cynthia Phelps and Associate Principal Viola Rebecca Young, and Brahms's Symphony No. 1, Wednesday, April 13, 2011, and Thursday, April 14, at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, April 16, at 8:00 p.m.

NY Phil To Perform Dittersdorf, Wasserman, Kodály and Schumann, 2/27

The New York Philharmonic Ensembles, spotlighting Musicians from the Orchestra, continues its 2010-11 season on Sunday, February 27, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. at Merkin Concert Hall with a program that features Dittersdorf's Duo in E-flat major for Viola and Bass, Ron Wasserman's Quatrefoil, Kodaly's Serenade for Two Violins and Viola and Schumann's Piano Trio No. 2 in F major.

NY Philharmonic Announces Details for Weekly Radio Broadcasts

In April 2011 The New York Philharmonic This Week - the two-hour, national, weekly radio program of concerts by the New York Philharmonic, hosted by actor Alec Baldwin - begins with the fourth and final program from Hungarian Echoes: A Philharmonic Festival conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen. Mr. Salonen leads Haydn's Symphony No. 8, Le Soir; Bartok's Piano Concerto No. 1, with Olli Mustonen as soloist; Ligeti's Clocks and Clouds, featuring the Women of New York Choral Artists, Joseph Flummerfelt, director; and Bartok's Suite from The Miraculous Mandarin. The following week Michael Tilson Thomas conducts Prokofiev's American Overture for Orchestra, Op 42; the New York Premiere of Sofia Gubaidulina's In Tempus Praesens, Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, with Anne-Sophie Mutter, The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence, as soloist; and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 2, Little Russian.

Alan Gilbert to Conduct Thurnauer Symphony Orchestra, 2/9

When Alan Gilbert, music director of the New York Philharmonic, mounts the podium at Bergen Performing Arts Center (BergenPAC) in Englewood on Wednesday, February 9 at 7:30 p.m., he will not be leading his acclaimed orchestra. Instead, Mr. Gilbert will lend his time and talent to provide a remarkable opportunity for the young musicians of the JCC Thurnauer School of Music. Mr. Gilbert will conduct the Thurnauer Symphony Orchestra for the School's 20th annual Gift of Music benefit gala, on the BergenPAC stage. Mr. Gilbert will be joined by New York Philharmonic concertmaster Glenn Dicterow, who will be guest soloist with the Orchestra. Rounding out the evening, additional musicians from the New York Philharmonic, including Mr. Gilbert on viola, will perform chamber music by Beethoven, Andres and Mendelssohn.

Rafael Fru?hbeck de Burgos will conduct the New York Philharmonic in the Overture to Glinka's Ruslan and Ludmila; Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto, with Leonidas Kavakos as soloist; Debussy's Nocturnes, featuring the Women of the New York Choral Artists; and the Suite from Stravinsky's The Firebird (1919), Friday, November 26, 2010, at 8:00 p.m., Saturday, November 27, at 8:00 p.m. On Tuesday, November 30 at 7:30 p.m., Mr. Fru?hbeck will conduct the Orchestra in Glinka's Ruslan and Ludmila Overture; Haydn's Symphony No. 100, Military; Debussy's Noctures; and Stravinsky's Firebird Suite.

The program will feature Eric Ewazen's Trio for Trumpet, Violin, and Piano; Loeffler's Deux Rapsodies; and Dohnányi's Piano Quintet No. 1.

The final program of this season's Very Young People's Concerts, geared to children ages 3 to 6, will take place Sunday, May 9, 2010, at 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., and Monday, May 10, at 10:30 a.m. at Merkin Concert Hall, 129 West 67th Street. This concert will explore 'forte and piano,' featuring the 'Summer' concerto from Vivaldi's The Four Seasons as part of the season's theme, 'Vivaldi and Friends.' Associate Principal Violist Rebecca Young is the host; Dorian Rence, also a violist with the Philharmonic, is the writer and narrator of stories about Philippe the Penguin, a character created for the series; and Marion Schoevaert is the illustrator.
